For those who are new to parenthood, they might think of shopping for the types of things you might find at a baby shower. Most believe that if the baby’s outfits are bright with attractive designs, it is enough. Though you might find that shades and patterns are simply just one basic factor in picking clothing. One will probably forget what is important when searching for baby outfits. With ever changing weather and other sorts of accidents, more suitable attire could be required. The unexpected times in daily life should always be considered when dressing your child.

Although getting your baby in a laced velvet gown will look adorable for a family christmas card, it is not going to be practical for day to day wear. Babies will get a mixture of spit, slobber, drool, and throw up on their clothing almost every day, so putting your baby in extravagant or dainty clothing will make it all the more irritating when you are going to be repeatedly switching and washing their baby clothing. This won’t imply that you can’t have cute outfits for your little one, but it’s far more sensible to save them for holiday events, pictures or outings to loved ones, rather than every day wear.

Handy onesies together with snap buttons, baby tee shirts, and skirts or maybe trousers which are easy on and off are your very best choices when considering everyday baby wear. You need to have ample clothing to provide your child with a nice and clean outfit whenever they spit up, or otherwise require a change of clothing. As a rule of thumb, you should have about five fresh outfits readily available at a time. Having enough clothing for about five different outfits will make sure that you’ll always have something to change your baby into, while keeping away from the trap of getting too many items of clothing and being overwhelmed with drawers brimming with clothes that won’t fit the baby in many months.

Essential Baby Clothing

8 To 10 Newborn Bodysuits/Onesies

The toddler bodysuit or onesie can be used as a foundational item of clothing to provide your baby warmth and relaxation, or it could be put on all on its own. A onesie has a snap between the legs, making them great for everyday wear and diaper switching. truly can’t get it wrong with a basic onesie for a baby. It is sensible, relaxing and a very necessary item in the baby’s collection. Some onesies are actually water-resistant! Waterproof clothing may be a way to prevent your baby from becoming damp beneath their clothing, be it from drool, perspiration, or rainwater.

Minimum of 5 to 7 Units Of Sleepwear

Baby sleepwear is equally as important as their day to day wear. The sort of sleepwear you purchase needs to be warm enough to keep them relaxed during the night yet practical enough for quick late night diaper changing. Sleepwear for babies is available in an assortment of different styles, including two piece outfits with slacks and a shirt, night gowns, onesies as well as wearable blankets. Regardless of what type of baby sleepwear you purchase, make sure the fit will not be too loose or too restricted — unintentional suffocation has been associated with poorly fit sleepwear.

Without all of these essential items I would find it quite challenging to juggle baby care and doing the washing. Having backup clothing ready will make your life less difficult as babies will always make a mess. Having several of different items will give you a longer period to get laundry done. Another excellent product that I suggest moms purchase a couple of might be mattress protectors, when babies are growing up they’re just surely gonna have accidents at night. Having extra mattress protectors will minimize a lot of future problems. Now that we’ve looked at bedding and apparel, let us mention footwear.

Baby footwear should be soft and as natural as possible allowing for the babies feet to grow properly. Everyday shoes should be so comfy that it seems exactly like walking around without any. Booties with grip are definitely the best as the little one begins to crawl or even walk.

New law to help asbestos sufferers in Victoria, Australia

Saturday, May 24, 2008

New legislation in Victoria, Australia will provide for greater compensation for victims suffering from effects of exposure to asbestos. The legislation is called “Bernie Banton law”, after the late campaigner for asbestos-related issues. The law will remove a restriction which prevented asbestos victims from making another claim after being diagnosed with a terminal illness. Banton contracted mesothelioma after working for the Netherlands-based company James Hardie, and died in 2007.

Prior to the Banton law victims of asbestos exposure could seek compensation for asbestosis, a disease resulting from exposure which causes lung scarring, but were unable to seek compensation if they were later diagnosed with mesothelioma.

Mesothelioma is a cancer which develops in the sac surrounding the lungs and chest cavity, abdominal cavity, or the sac surrounding the heart. Patients with malignant mesothelioma generally do not have positive outcomes, and once diagnosed have six months to a year to live. Asbestos usage has been banned in Victoria, Australia since 2003.

Allowing an exception to the normal rule that court-awarded compensation is final will allow compensation for the true effects of asbestos exposure.

Victorian Premier John Brumby welcomed the legislation, saying: “Victorian workers deserve fair compensation for illnesses and injuries they have received just by doing their job.” Brumby acknowledged that Victoria had lagged behind other states in its asbestos compensation practices. “Allowing an exception to the normal rule that court-awarded compensation is final will allow compensation for the true effects of asbestos exposure,” explained Brumby.

Bernie Banton’s widow, Karen Banton, stood alongside John Brumby as the legislation was announced, and spoke out in favor of the law. “The uncertainty that these Victorian families have suffered up until this point, the dilemma of whether I claim and whether I wait … it would be a terrible choice to have to make,” she said. She said her late husband would have been honored by the legislation’s passage, and was appreciative that his name was associated with the cause of justice in the country. “I’m sure Bernie’s looking down from heaven, feeling very honoured and humbled that his name continues to be associated with the fight to correct injustice,” she said.

There’s a lot of asbestos around, this is a live issue for the community and we strongly welcome this initiative.

The Australian Manufacturing Workers Union and the Victorian Trades Hall Council supported the legislation’s passage, as did Martin Kingham of the Asbestos Diseases Society of Victoria. Kingham said that in the past asbestos sufferers were wary about whether or not to make a claim: “They’ve had to gamble on whether to make a claim now and to cut off any compensation for more serious fatal illness or to, basically, sit it out and wait and see what happens to them and potentially not getting compensated for their original asbestosis.”

“There’s a lot of asbestos around, this is a live issue for the community and we strongly welcome this initiative,” said Australian Manufacturing Workers Union Victorian secretary Steve Dargavel. Victorian Trades Hall Council secretary Brian Boyd called the legislation “a good and decent thing” but said more action was needed to better protect asbestos victims’ families. The additional claims are expected to help approximately 50 people each year. The legislation will be introduced in the State Parliament next year.

Freak wave rocks luxury liner–4 hurt

Sunday, April 17, 2005

The Norwegian Dawn, a 965-foot-long luxury vessel, was struck by “a freak wave that caused two windows to break in two different cabins,” the owners, Norwegian Cruise Line, said in a statement. It changed course, docking in Charleston late Saturday afternoon instead of completing its planned travel to New York.

The wave, estimated at 7-stories-high, flooded 62 cabins and injured 4 passengers with cuts and bruises. Company spokeswoman Susan Robison said the wave reached to deck 10.

The hull was damaged but the vessel was not in any trouble, according to the Coast Guard, and the safety of the ship “was in no way compromised by this incident.” Passengers were told to don their flotation jackets anyway.

The ship left New York last Sunday on a week-long round-trip cruise to and from the Bahamas.

Pennsylvania man named in alleged terror plot

Tuesday, February 14, 2006

Michael Curtis Reynolds, 47, from Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, is accused of trying to work with al-Qaeda, according to the FBI.

The Phildelphia Inquirer has reportedly obtained court transcripts from Reynold’s Rule Five hearing, before a federal magistrate judge in Pocatello, Idaho that revealed a “convoluted plot” that also includes cyberspace intrigue, an FBI sting, and then an exchange of money in Idaho. Reynolds was represented by Federal Defender, Nick Veith, at the hearing.

According to the transcripts, FBI agents say that Reynolds was plotting to blow up the Alaska pipeline, another pipeline in Pennsylvania and a refinery in New Jersey, with a person who he thought was an al-Qaeda operative. It is also reported that he had planned an attack against Standard Oil Co. in Perth Amboy, New Jersey and Williams Refinery in Opal, Wyoming. However, the Standard Oil refinery, now Chevron, does not exist anymore. The refinery had closed more than a decade ago. All that remains in its place is an empty field. Armada Hess is the only active refinery in Perth Amboy.

So far, Reynolds has not been charged with terrorism.

However, a prosecutor in Reynolds’ December hearing said that, “he tried to provide material aid to al Qaeda.” The prosecutor also said the case “involves a federal offense of terrorism.”

A municipal judge from Conrad, Montana, Shannen Rossmiller, 36, led the FBI to Reynolds by posing as an al-Qaeda operative. Reports say that Rossmiller was looking through terrorist websites when she came across a post by Reynolds who was seeking $40,000 that he would use to buy fuel trucks that would blow up refineries in New Jersey, Wyoming and part of the Alaska Pipeline. After six-weeks of e-mailing each other, Rossmiller agreed to pay the money, and set up a meeting with Reynolds in Pocatello, Idaho. It is reported that after the plans were made, Rossmiller then contacted the FBI who then set up a sting operation, two months ago, against Reynolds. “I feel compelled to do what I can and I know that I have an ability to do something. I’m out for the hunt,” said Rossmiller.

Rossmiller started to look through terror websites just after the September 11 terrorist attacks in NYC. She has read the Koran, studied the radical Islamist lifestyle, and learned just enough Arabic to lurk around in terrorist related chat rooms and “ensnare” the extremists. She also said that he has “assumed several the identities of more than two dozen male personae on the Internet,” and was also part of “a large number” of cases involving the hunting of terrorists. Court records also show that Rossmiller had posed on the Internet as an Algerian terrorist to “befriend” Ryan Anderson, a Muslim convert and a member of the National Guard from the state of Washington, who wanted to hand over information to al-Qaeda on how to destroy Army tanks and humvees.

Assistant U.S. Attorney John C. Gurganus Jr. said, according to transcripts, “he (Reynolds) was doing it as a plan to disrupt governmental function, to change the government’s actions in foreign countries, and to impact on the national debate about the (Iraq) war.”

Reynolds denies trying to work with al-Qaeda and stated that he was “a patriot seeking to expose an al-Qaeda cell inside the United States.” Philip Gelso, Reynolds’s attorney, has not commented on the case.

Authorities searched Reynolds’ home and took his computer as evidence, and some documents allegedly spelling out his terror plots. According to Gurganus, in e-mails on his computer, Reynolds “described what explosives should be used (in the attacks) and where they should be placed.” Gurganus also told the judge that Reynolds, “knew the plots could get him the death penalty as a traitor and that he would have to leave the country immediately once they were carried out.”

According to the British The Inquirer, Microsoft was issued a subpoena last month to allow the Department of Justice access to Reynolds’ hotmail account.

Reynolds has been in Lackawanna County jail, held without bail, since December 5, 2005, when he was arrested about 25 miles from the Thunderbird Motel in Pocatello, Idaho for an unrelated weapons charge. He was charged with possession of an unregistered explosive device when authorities found a grenade in a duffel bag that was inside a home in Pocatello that Reynolds was staying at before he came to Idaho. The grenade charge carries a minimum sentence of three to seven years, to be served in a federal prison. On December 20, a jury indicted and charged Reynolds with two counts of unlawfully possessing hand grenades.

Reynolds pleaded guilty to attempted arson in 1978, a misdemeanor and menacing. He was sentenced to a conditional discharge. He has also been previously convicted of disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and breach of the peace.

The Times-Tribune received a letter on the 13th that used Reynolds’ return address at the Lackawanna County Prison and bears a rubber stamp as used to mark outgoing mail from the jail that detailed Reynold’s denial of ties to al-Qaeda. The letter is postmarked with a date of February 10th, before the Philadelphia Inquirer story was published.

Titled “Patriot Games,” the letter’s content addresses the charge regarding the grenade found at his residence in a comment stating that it was planted there “by someone known to myself and to the FBI.” In denial of work for and also in denial of any desire to work for al-Qaeda, Reynolds wrote that “I know what losses terrorists inflict on people. I would never work to assist them or harbor any,” referring to his claim of a colleague being killed in the September 11 attacks on the Twin Towers.

In the letter Reynolds explains the investigation that he claims to have been working on to track “a person that I had believed to be a terrorist” and to expose them “once I had solid proof of who or where they operated from.”

Reynolds claims that his family founded Bedford Hills, New York in 1676. He further claims that he personally has given military service in the US Army, written a Military police handbook, trained SWAT and drug enforcement teams. He further claims to have been an engineer with military clearance and to have taught in Thailand as a first grade teacher and also an English teacher to Buddhist monks.

As an explanation for his prosecution, Reynolds has written that he believes it to have been due to his military service and that he believes the case would be dismissed provided a hearing in front of a judge.

When questioned as to the authenticity of the letter, prison warden Janine M. Donate said that the letter appeared to be from the prison.

Bomb in Dagestan explodes Russian military truck

Friday, September 2, 2005

An explosion today in Makhachkala, Russia in the Russian region of Dagestan killed one and wounded five others, police say. The bomb detonated in a pile of garbage, where servicemen and a truck had been sent to search for explosives on a street near a military base. When the engineers got out of the truck to search, the bomb went off.

The Dagestani Ministry, reported by the Russian news agency ITAR-Tass, originally stated that the blast killed two servicemen and wounded three others. They later revised this to six servicemen wounded (as well as one civilian), but no fatalities. A police officer told ITAR-Tass news that a brigade had been on patrol when the explosion occurred.

According to RIA-Novosti and Interfax news, medics reported one death and six injuries. RIA-Novosti also reports that the bomb exploded near a trolley bus.

Police and ambulances were immediately brought to the area of the explosion, which was quickly sealed off by police.

The alleged planters of the bomb were followed by police, but escaped after firing at the officers.

This explosion is not surprising, as racial tensions in the Muslim majority region of Dagestan often lead to attacks on officials and police.

When You Are Tired Of Hardwood Flooring Consider Using Marble Floor Tiles}

Submitted by: Mr.Andrew Caxton

Marble tile flooring can be a good alternative to hardwood flooring and it can also be inexpensive too. You can purchase it in a number of locations in a variety of different patterns and sizes.

Sometimes it is a good idea to replace the flooring that you currently have. Over the years your floor goes through quite an ordeal. This can leave it looking dull, chipped and damaged and it can be hard to repair. So replacing it is often the best idea and it doesnt have to be as expensive as you think either.

Why Marble Floor Tiles Are Worth Considering

If you are thinking of replacing your flooring then marble floor tiles could be an option worth considering. They are stylish, easy to clean and they come in a variety of designs. For example, the tiles can either be rough or smooth and they often have a pattern on them which can include hand painted designs. Obviously the more complex the pattern, the more expensive the tiles will be, and the pattern which you choose will depend upon the room that you are placing them in.

For example, if you are placing the marble floor tiles in the kitchen you will want a pattern such as leaves or perhaps plain tiles are more your style. In the living room a nice swirl pattern on the tiles could go well. Take you time to know what effect you are after and look around at the options available to you before you make a decision.

You can purchase marble floor tiles from a number of different locations including local hardware department stores and on the internet. You should ideally measure the area where the tiles are going as they are usually sold in square feet and if you do not know what area you need to cover, you will not be able to purchase any.

If you do take a guess and you just purchase a rough number you could really end up regretting it. This is because if you purchase too little tiles and you have to go back to the store, they could very well have sold out of the tiles you purchased. That would mean that you have gaps where the tiling should be and it will mean all your hard work with the other tiles was for nothing. If anything always try and order too many, especially if they are patterned as then at least you have some spare in case the other ones chip or break somehow.

Overall marble floor tiles can be a good alternative to hardwood flooring but you really do need to ensure that you measure the room before purchasing any. They are easy to clean and they can be inexpensive too so they are certainly worth considering when you next look out for new flooring ideas.

Rally in Australian forests to oppose woodchip industry

Sunday, July 2, 2006

A rally organised by a coalition of nearly 30 environmental groups took place at the site of the Eden wood chip mill in the south east forests of New South Wales today. Organisers estimate that 600 people attended the event, many of whom had travelled hundreds of kilometers to the site from various parts of New South Wales and Victoria.

The protesters sought to highlight the trade in wood chips made from old growth native forests which has continued in Australia despite promises by governments to discontinue the practice. It is thought to be an unnecessary sacrifice of a publicly owned resource and the habitat of native animals for short term profits. The industry is subsidised through provision of publicly funded infrastructure and a unreasonably low royalty levied on harvesters of the resource.

All Eden wood chips are exported, mostly to pulp and paper mills in Japan and the paper made from Eden chips is generally copy paper used in the printing industry and it is consumed within Japan. Since its establishment, Eden has exported over 35 million tonnes of native forest chips.

The Eden chip mill exports approximately 900,000 tonnes of chips a year, and is heading for 1 million tonnes in the next couple of years, produced from native forests each year and Australia is the only country that continues to trade forest wood chips to Japan, as all other supplier countries use plantation stock to produce chips.

The rally was organised with police cooperation and was conducted without any incident.

Funding gap forces library closures in Jackson County, Oregon

Wednesday, February 14, 2007

Due to a US$23 million budget shortfall, all public libraries in Jackson County, Oregon are scheduled to close April 6. The U.S. Congress did not renew the Secure Rural Schools and Self-Determination Act, which replaces property tax revenues with revenue sharing from timber harvests. Jackson County used the revenue to pay for libraries and sherriff’s patrols. Voters rejected a property tax increase last November. A similar increase will appear on the May ballot; such increases must pass a double-majority vote: a majority of county voters must turn out for the election, and a majority of those must support the increase.

Supporters hope the measure will pass this time. “Many people didn’t believe we were going to close libraries.” said County Commissioner C.W. Smith. The Ashland City Council has said it would find a funding solution to keep their branch of the library open; other cities have not made similar statements. Some alternative funding solutions, such as charging subscription fees, have been considered. However, charging fees for access to libraries is illegal in Oregon.

Jackson County is located in Southern Oregon, and has a population of 181,000. The Jackson County Library System consists of 15 branches.
