Shelving Storage: Helping Save Valuable Floor Space

Submitted by: James McNeil

You have known the day has been coming for a while now. It is simply getting too crowded out in the warehouse. Perhaps you have increased your inventory so much that there is no room left for new items? Perhaps you have now affected the safety of the floor because you cannot even move around in the warehouse? No matter what the reason, there are shelving storage solutions that can help you turn that warehouse into one organised space.

Why Consider Warehouse Shelving?

Other than the obvious reason of needing more room, you also need to get organised. How much time did you spend in there looking for an item last time? If you could have everything organised, labelled and its correct place, how much time could you save? For many companies, the answer is a lot of time.

Warehouse shelving storage can be used to create a new workable space. You may want move up and build more storage options that are taller. Horizontal and vertical shelves can quickly improve your overall organisation. You may choose to completely revamp your current shelving storage. No matter what type of solution you need, there are options available. Depending on what you choose to store, you could find that a bin or bucket system is what you need.

The weight of what will be stored is important. You must have a shelving storage system that can handle the overall, combined weight of stored items without giving, cracking, or breaking altogether. The shelves must be strong and durable, as you certainly do not want to find everything on the floor one morning as you report for work!

You can find open or closed back shelving storage solutions, galvanized or traditional steel, wire shelving, or even plastic shelving. It will depend on what you place on these shelves! If your company does a lot of posting out and receiving mail, then you may want to configure your warehouse so that pallets, pallet jacks and forklifts can move easily between the storage racks. You will also need to have a specific place for every item, or filling orders will simply not work well.

Ask for Help if Needed

For those companies that need to quickly identify a solution with their current storage system, you may find a call to a company that specialises in these types of storage solutions can yield great results. The customer service representatives have usually heard it all before, so they are quite able to suggest possible alternatives to your current situation.

You want to purchase this type of shelving only once. Having to repeatedly purchase new storage options is not cost effective and it is time consuming to install. If you can do it all just once, it is going to make it a lot easier on you. It is also much more inexpensive than continually add new storage. Get ready to finally figure out exactly what you are looking for in your warehouse. Get organised, add the right shelving storage and get ready to improve your work area!

Smoke from massive warehouse fire in Buffalo, New York USA can be seen 40 miles away

Monday, May 14, 2007

Buffalo, New York — A massive warehouse complex of at least 5 buildings caught on fire in Buffalo, New York on 111 Tonawanda Street, sending a plume of thick, jet black colored smoke into the air that could be seen as far away as 40 miles.

As of 6:40 a.m., the fire was under control, and firefighters were attempting to stop it from spreading, but could not get to the center of the fire because of severe amounts of debris. Later in the morning, the fire was extinguished.

“The fire is mostly under debris at this point. It’s under control, but it’s under some debris. We really can’t get to it. We’re just going to have to keep on pouring water on it so it doesn’t spread,” said Thomas Ashe, the fire chief for the North Buffalo based fire division who also added that at one point, at least 125 firefighters were on the scene battling the blaze. One suffered minor injures and was able to take himself to the hospital to seek medical attention.

Shortly after 8:00 p.m. as many as 3 explosions rocked the warehouse sending large mushroom clouds of thick black smoke into the air. After the third explosion, heat could be felt more than 100 feet away. The fire started in the front, one story building then quickly spread to three others, but fire fighters managed to stop the flames from spreading onto the 3 story building all the way at the back.

According to a Buffalo Police officer, who wished not to be named, the fire began at about 7:00 p.m. [Eastern time], starting as a one alarm fire. By 8:00 p.m., three fire companies were on the scene battling the blaze. Police also say that a smaller fire was reported in the same building on Saturday night, which caused little damage.

At the start of the fire, traffic was backed up nearly 4 miles on the 198 expressway going west toward the 190 Interstate and police had to shut down the Tonawanda street exit because the road is too close to the fire.

At one point, traffic on the 198 was moving so slow, at least a dozen people were seen getting out of their cars and walking down the expressway to watch the fire. That prompted as many as 10 police cars to be dispatched to the scene to force individuals back into their cars and close off one of the 2 lanes on the westbound side.

One woman, who wished not to be named as she is close to the owner of the warehouse, said the building is filled with “classic cars, forklifts, and money” and that owner “does not have insurance” coverage on the property. The building is not considered abandoned, but firefighters said that it is vacant.

Officials in Fort Erie, Ontario were also swamped with calls to fire departments when the wind blew the smoke over the Niagra River and into Canada.

It is not known what caused the fire, but a car is suspected to have caught on fire and there are reports from police and hazmat crews, that there were also large barrels of diesel fuel being stored in one building. Firefighters say the cause of the blaze is being treated as “suspicious.” The ATF is investigating the fire and will bring dogs in to search the debris.

Weapons storage facility in Syria explodes killing 15 soldiers

Thursday, July 26, 2007

A military weapons storage facility in al-Masalmyiah, just north of Aleppo, Syria has exploded, killing at least 15 Syrian soldiers and injuring at least 50 others. The explosion occurred on the grounds of a military academy’s infantry school where weapons and ammunition are stored.

The blast, which occurred at 4:30 a.m. EEST (UTC+3) is believed to have been caused by excessive summer temperatures, but other reports suggest that a gas leak may have sparked the blast. The incident is reported to not be terrorism related.

“[The blast was] not the result of sabotage. There is a heat wave and temperatures reached close to 50 degrees (Celsius) [Nearly 115 (Fahrenheit)], which caused an ammunition dump to explode,” said an unnamed Syrian official.

Firefighters report several deaths and injuries, but also said that the fires caused by the blast have been extinguished.

Australian Labor Party shelves government oversight of media legislation

Friday, March 22, 2013

A package of six media reform bills introduced last week before Australia’s Parliament — including one proposing appointing a Public Interest Media Advocate (PIMA) to monitor print and online sectors — was shelved yesterday by the Australian Labor Party, with only two passed before a seven week break for the country’s legislative body. Stephen Conroy, the Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, had hoped to see the legislation package passed by the end of the week.

The six-bill media advocacy legislation package, including Public Interest Media Advocate Bill 2013, Broadcasting Legislation Amendment (Convergence Review and Other Measures) Bill 2013, Broadcasting Legislation Amendment (News Media Diversity) Bill 2013 which includes provisions related to news media and PIMA, News Media (Self-regulation) (Consequential Amendments) Bill 2013 which would require media organisations to be registered with the government to enjoy protections traditionally enjoyed by journalists and the media, News Media (Self-regulation) Bill 2013 which creates PIMA, and Television Licence Fees Amendment Bill 2013, were introduced Thursday February 14 before the House Standing Infrastructure and Communications and the Senate Environment and Communications Legislation Committee.

The Parliament of Australia summarized Public Interest Media Advocate Bill 2013 as, “Part of a package of six bills in relation to the media sector, the bill: creates the independent statutory office of the Public Interest Media Advocate (PIMA); provides for the functions, appointment, and terms and conditions of PIMA; and requires an annual report to be prepared on PIMA’s activities and other specified matters.” Other bills in the package delineate what PIMA’s role would be. Broadcasting Legislation Amendment (Convergence Review and Other Measures) Bill 2013 and Television Licence Fees Amendment Bill 2013 both had their second reading on Tuesday in the House and were the only bills to pass both houses of parliament. Unlike the other bills in the package which have not had a third reading before being shelved, the former bill deals primarily with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation and Special Broadcasting Service, while the latter bill increased licensing fees for television stations.

On Monday, the Australian Associated Press (AAP) released a statement saying such government oversight is not required. Other Australian media organizations have protested the proposed legislation. Australia’s The Daily Telegraph is quoted by the Brisbane Times describing this legislation as an “aggressive attempt to silence your media.”

Speaking before a Senate committee about media reform, AAP chief Bruce Davidson said, “We simply do not believe that there is a problem with the conduct of the media in Australia, and certainly not that of AAP, that warrants further oversight by a minster-appointed body […] Any hidden perception, I believe, of government interference is simply a dangerous precedent that may lead to control, may lead to interference […] The aims may be noble, Mr Chairman, but the potential for potential misuse and changes of that legislation as presented to us, I think, is a dangerous thing to contemplate.”

Former federal court judge Ray Finkelstein oversaw an inquiry into the Australian print media in 2011. He told a government inquiry, “There are no powerful groups in society that can come along to governments or anybody and say ‘we can do what we like when we like and there’s nothing you should do about it’.” Finkelstein is also on the record as stating that self regulation by the industry through their own organization has failed.

ONLINE COLLEGE COURSES

by

Alex scis

Are you looking up to pursue studies further to boost up your chances in corporate world by acquiring a new qualification? What’s the need to look for a full-time course when there are a plenty available online. Now a days most of the universities offer numerous online college courses in different fields of study and these courses provide the quintessential degree you have been vouching for. These

online college courses

usually have weekly or monthly doubt clearing sessions which are also not essentially mandatory to attend, i.e. attendance in these sessions is not compulsory as these sessions are for assisting and helping the students in clearings their problems and doubts regarding the subject. Some colleges offer these sessions during evening.

Be it culinary arts, humanities, accountancy, business administration, clerical courses, pharmacy, law, biomedicine, agriculture, hospitality & tourism, science, music, any course name one may have, the courses are available online for almost all of the streams. These courses are much affordable than similar full time college courses and the degrees offered through such online college courses are equally valid and acceptable by the industry. Apart from there affordability, a person can also work full time while pursuing any of these courses. Despite these facts, some people refrain from pursuing degrees through online courses as they consider these second rated and non-value adding in real term, however, as mentioned above, the same is not held true by the industry resources as corporate world almost never differentiates between the two. This especially stands firm for candidates with relevant work experience.

One big rationale for the huge success of online college courses

has been their high affordability. A typical online course may range anywhere between US$100-2000 which is a far cry from their full time counterparts which can cost ten times this amount. Most of these courses also offer the facility of virtual teachers online which is available round the clock and most of the problems are provided with solutions online along with the demonstration of the same. However, one must enquire about the prospects of the applicability of such courses prior to commencing it e.g. an online law course may make one valid for a post of legal consultant but such a candidate may be refrained by law from practicing in a court of law. Except for such a few modalities, such courses come handy in the world of cut-throat competition in getting ahead of all.

20 injured in Montreal college shooting spree

Wednesday, September 13, 2006

At 12:41 p.m. local time (UTC-5), a man opened fire at Dawson College, in Westmount, Quebec, Canada; the college is located near the heart of downtown Montreal. Police report at least 20 people being injured. The gunman was reportedly killed at the scene by police. Students told reporters that they heard several shots in the building at about 12:45 local time. One student told a local radio station that she saw two people who had been shot, including one who was hit at the neck. The student said a friend told her four people had been shot.

Hundreds of students fled the building, and the area has been cordoned off. Nearby Plaza Alexis Nihon and Westmount Square were evacuated and the Green line of the Montreal Metro was shut down between Lionel-Groulx and Peel. Police officers wearing bullet-proof vests are keeping people away from the college. “They’re telling me, ‘Go the other way, lady, you’re in the line of fire,'” said CBC News reporter Nancy Wood, who reported from the scene.

Local media have reported police hotlines have been established for loved ones to gain more information: +1-(514)-280-2880, +1-(514)-280-2805, and +1-(514)-280-2806. The Montreal General Hospital has also set up a hotline at +1-(514)-843-2839.

Police have reported that the situation has been neutralized as of 20:06, September 13, 2006 (UTC). Police have been told to stand down and are no longer looking for new victims or shooters.

Dawson College is a CEGEP that hosts about 10,000 students.

Earlier reports suggested that there were between two and six gunmen, however, reports are generally that there were two, maybe three. Police have only confirmed that there was one gunman, Kimveer Gill, who was shot dead “after police intervention,”. They will not say anything about additional shooters. A close witness to Gill’s last moments reported being used as a shield during the shootout with police officers, who allegedly hit Gill in the arm. The shooter would then have turned his weapon on himself.

The gunman was Kimveer Gill, a 25 year old Laval man. He was carrying three guns: a Beretta Cx4 Storm carbine, a Glock 9mm handgun, and a Norinco HP9-1 sawed-off shotgun.

Up to 20 shots were fired over a period of 30 minutes.

Police have indicated 20 people have been injured in the incident. CBC reports that 16 people are injured, and 2 have been killed, including the gunman. Montreal General Hospital officials have stated that 11 people have been admitted with gunshot wounds, 8 of them in critical condition. A spokeswoman also stated that 3 others were taken to Jean Talon Hospital and two others were taken to the Jewish General Hospital. The spokeswoman went on to report that most of the injuries are to the abdomen and limbs, and one victim with an injury to the head.

Bring Out The Elastic In Flex Fit Baseball Caps

Submitted by: Maggie Johnson

Regular baseball caps are not the only style there is. Different individuals have asked for different styles of baseball caps. Some do like the look and feel of the traditional cap. Some have just gotten use to it and that is all they know. But happens when you get tired of the same old things day after day? Simple, you try something new. Flex fit caps are a different style of caps for those that need variety. So what is different about them? They are made to stretch and fit most heads. They do not fit all people, but they do fit most.

What type of sports do you like? Are you in to football, baseball, racing, or hockey? Each sport has a variety of hats to choose from. They will range in variety depending on the styles available. They will come in regular caps, possibly fitted hats and of course flex fit hats. Flex fit baseball caps are becoming increasing popular due to the fact there is no adjusting to tighten it up. The material is made to stretch to fit your head. Some flex fits will not fit everyone, so be sure to check and see if there are larger sizes available.

Since flex fits baseball caps are made to stretch, they do not come off as easily as regular hats do. This can be a very nice feature when participating in athletic events. If you are headed to the golf course, grab your flex fit hat especially if it is a little windy. With flex fit hats made to stretch, chances are they will not blow off as easily as regular hats do. Of course do not get carried away and wear them while racing go carts. High speeds still have a tendency of grabbing any hat and blowing it away.

Flex fit baseball caps are just as good for retail establishments as well. With the number of designs to choose from, there would be hundreds needed if they were to be fitted hats. Flex fits reduce the number of hats that are needed to be kept in inventory. Since they will not need to carry as many hats, the number of designs on the shelf may increase. This gives the consumer a chance to view more styles of hats and choose a style more to their liking. Not everyone has the same taste. But if you needed several dozen hats of one style, it cuts down on the number of designs you can have. Variety is good.

Hats come in a variety of colors and styles. Not every hat is made to everybody s liking. That is the reason many styles are created. There are regular hats, fitted hats, flat billed hats and even flex fit baseball caps. There is not right or wrong reason to buy one over the other. But if you are looking for a hat that does not need adjustments and fits nicely on your head, then flex fits baseball caps are for you.

Danish clothing company sells T-shirts to support FARC and PFLP

Friday, January 20, 2006

A recently created Danish clothing company is selling on the internet T-shirts in order to support the clandestine radio station of the Colombian guerrilla group Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) and the graphical workshop of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP). In fact the money will be used by these groups to carry on their terrorist activities. FARC activities include kidnappings, masacres, bombs, extortions and the drug trade.

Fighters and Lovers is selling the T-shirts at 170 DKK (US$27.6), from which 35 DKK (US$5.7) are to be destinated to support both armed groups.

Anna Duever, Fighters and Lovers PR chief, said to Spanish news agency EFE that their objective is to “defend freedom and social justice, which is FARC and PFLP are fighting for”. Duever believes the fact the FARC has been included by the EU in its terrorist group list is a “political game”. “We pay our taxes in Denmark, and that money is used for financing the troops our government has sent to Iraq. That’s terrorism. Besides, in Colombia there’s a regime oppressing population and torturing and killing its people”, she said.

Colombian Foreign Affairs Minister, Carolina Barco, said to local media that “financing terrorist groups is unacceptable and goes against all the international norms. Yesterday [Tuesday 19] our ambassador contacted the Danish government, we sent a protest note and have demanded an explanation.”

A year ago, a Danish NGO named Oprør (“Rebelion”) stated it had donated money to the Colombian guerrilla. A new antiterrorism law in Denmark may punish it.
