The marketing field is now on its highest status. Almost every possible marketing avenue can now be found out there magazines, newspaper, dustbin, billboards you name it, everything is available. But with this enormous promotional or advertising media, it usually becomes very hard for businesses to attract their desired clients and customers to their business. Why? Perhaps because the medium is not appropriate or the message is poor. Whatever the reason is, the right marketing medium is important.

If all things fail and you still can t find the best marketing medium for your business, it does pay to go back to the traditional way of advertising products and services. There s nothing wrong with going old-school as long as the material is able to do its job effectively. One good example of this is the postcards.

Postcards are just one of the several advertising media that you can use to promote your business. These cards are very good in promoting businesses even in the early years. They are cheap and very easy to create especially if you utilize online postcard printing. To give you and idea on how to create an effective post card, below are some tips you can consider.

Size matters since there are wide options of post card sizes being offered by online printing companies, choosing the right size that will perfectly suit your business can be a difficult task. The size of your postcards nowadays usually comes in jumbo, large, mini postcards, and the standard post cards. Nowadays, most postcards users and business establishments use the jumbo postcard since of it very unique in size and will allow them to easily stand out among others. Aside from that, the jumbo sized postcards provide a larger space where you can put all of your business information and other add-ons such as pictures or images. However, if you want to save money, you might want to stick with standard sized or mini sized postcards as jumbo cards cost extra to print.

The quantity of postcards to be printed – aside from the size, the quantity of the postcards you need to print is a crucial factor to consider. It is a must to decide on the number of post cards you need printed before sending them to the postcard printing company. For example, if you want to reach a thousand clients and customers, then printing a thousand or more postcards is important. But be sure not to spend your whole budget on post cards alone since post cards are designed to lessen the cost of your promotional campaign, not to increase them.

The quality of paper stocks if you want to truly make your post cards good looking and effective in the market, ensure that you use quality and reliable paper stocks. There are different kinds of paper materials that you can use for your cards and each of these types has its own unique ability in making your postcards stand out among other postcards in the market. So, choose the right type of paper stock that will perfectly suit your business. And as much as possible choose the heavy duty paper stock to ensure your post cards don t crumple easily. You want them to reach your prospects in pristine condition, right? So, choose the paper stock carefully.

Charles Kennedy rejects leadership allegations

Sunday, July 30, 2006

Charles Kennedy, who stepped down as leader of the British Liberal Democrats party this January, is planning a fresh campaign for his old job, according to today’s News of the World. But Mr Kennedy, who resigned after admitting he had problems with alcohol, has dismissed such reports.

A senior party source claimed Mr Kennedy is holding weekly meetings with key aids about preparing to contest the Liberal Democrats current leader, Sir Menzies Campbell. It is also claimed Mr Kennedy is “deadly serious” about the challenge.

The source added that if Sir Menzies fails to deliver at this September’s Liberal Democrat conference, the bid could be mounted then, but it is more likely to come after the next General Election, which is expected to take place in 2010.

Mr Kennedy’s key advisors, which apparently includes the head of campaigns Lord Razzell, are said to be planning a tactic to oppose a potentially damaging biography of Mr Kennedy which is due to hit the shelves later this summer.

In a response to the allegations, a statement released on behalf of Mr Kennedy by the Liberal Democrats said: “As everyone knows, long-standing friends and political colleagues remain close to me. We meet frequently and it is simply fanciful to read anything else into such a normal ongoing state of affairs.”

Lord Newby, who was Mr Kennedy’s chief of staff during his reign as Liberal Democrat leader, called the story “ridiculous”.

Sir Menzies, who was chosen by party members to head the party in March, has been criticised over his performance as leader, especially during Prime Minister’s Questions. On Friday, Peter Black, a Liberal Democrat Welsh Assembly member, issued a cutting attack on the 65 year-old, telling him to “shape up”. A recent poll also says that support for the Liberal Democrats has slumped to its lowest point since 2002. The Guardian/ICM survey put the Liberal Democrats at 17%, with the Conservatives on 39% and Labour on 35%.

However, Sir Menzies told BBC Newsnight recently that he “would not be judged by opinion polls after a few months”. He also said: “If I didn’t think I had the energy, the values and the judgement to be the leader of the Liberal Democrats, I wouldn’t have offered myself for the job.”

Discover Trastevere\’s Best Restaurants

by

Roberta Stuart

More than anything, Rome is perhaps known for its delicious food, lively restaurants, and cafe culture. And though most people want to stay in Pigna or Trevi, some of the other districts of Rome offer a different, and just as special, experience. Trastevere, which means “across the river”, is to the south west of the city centre but offers great rail and road connections to many of the other sites and attractions in the more well known areas, such as the Vatican. Trastevere also has some great cafes and restaurants, such as the The Ripa Place inside the Worldhotel Ripa Roma, and many other small bistros and gourmet restaurants. This article will list some of the best places to check out during your stay in this unique and fascinating district. Ripa Place (1 Via degli Orti di Trastevere)Just south of the district\’s boundary is the Worldhotel Ripa Roma with its bistro and restaurant The Ripa Place. Its décor is ultra modern, with a sleek minimalist interior design. This supurb restaurant features locally sourced and organic food from regional farmers, with a changing menu that reflects the season and the food culture.Alberto Ciarla (40 Piazza San Cosimato)If you loved the striking interior of the Worldhotel Ripa Roma, then you should also check out the Albeto Ciarla. Also in the minimalist tradition, this restaurant has friendly staff and a sophisticated, set-price menu. It also offers some of the best fish dishes in the city.Antico Arco (7 Piazza Aurelio)Very different from the modern décor at Alberto Ciarla or the Worldhotel Ripa Roma, the Antico Arco features a traditional setting on top of the Giancolo hill. Heavily emphasising meat, the menu focuses on traditional ingredients and authentic Italian inspiration, but also has some interesting interpretations of a more conservative cuisine. They are best known for their delicious Piedmontese cheese risotto.Asincotto (48 Via de Vascellari)This gay-friendly restaurant is a cozy and typical Italian trattoria offering traditional local Trasevere dishes. They are refined and interpreted in a very creative way, however, and you can try such delights as gnocchi with mint and pepper, or a very interesting veal in raspberry vinegar sauce.Il Ciak (21 Vincolo del Cinque)The game featured on the walls and in the windows lets the passersby and potential diners know that Il Ciak is a restaurant with a heavy focus on meat dishes. A delicious, traditional Tuscan-style menu is matched with the house Chianti wine, making their meals hearty and delicious. Paris (7a Piazza San Calisto)With a small outdoor eating area and wonderfully dated interior décor, despite its name, the Paris features a menu rich in traditional Roman-Jewish gourmet cuisine. Here you can get braised oxtail, delicious wines, and deep-fried vegetables. The location is unbeatable if you can get an outdoor seat and watch all the people pass through the busy square.

Glasgow cannabis enthusiasts celebrate ‘green’ on city green

Tuesday, April 22, 2014

Coinciding with Easter Sunday, Glasgow Cannabis Social Club’s annual 420 event was held on Glasgow Green, under sunny blue skies, and overlooking the river Clyde. Despite the city’s council attempting to revoke permission for the gathering at the last minute, police were happy for it to go-ahead with approximately a dozen officers attending in high-visibility vests.

The Daily Record reported five arrests were made for minor offences, likely smoking and possession of small quantities of cannabis. Taking a less-sensational — and more accurate — line of reporting, the Monday edition of Glasgow’s Evening News stated five were referred to the Procurator Fiscal who is responsible for deciding if charges should be brought.

Official figures provided by the police were that 150 attended. With people coming and going, Wikinews reporters estimated upwards of 200 attended, compared to nearly 700 who had signed up for the event on Facebook. Hemp goods were advertised and on sale at the event, and some attendees were seen drinking cannabis-themed energy drinks.

“I was searched and charged under the Misuse of Drugs Act (which is a lot of bollocks)” one attendee noted online, adding “not fair to happen on a brilliant day like it was, other than that I had a great day!” A second said they were openly smoking and ignored by police, who “were only really focusing on people who looked particularly young”.

Cannabis seeds were openly and legally sold at the event and a hydroponics supplier brought a motortrike towing an advertising trailer. Actually growing cannabis is, however, illegal in the UK.

With the event openly advocating the legalisation of cannabis, speakers put their arguments for this to a receptive crowd. Retired police officer James Duffy, of Law Enforcement Against Prohibition, spoke of the failed United States alcohol prohibition policy; stressing such policies needlessly bring people into contact with criminal elements. Highlighting other countries where legalisation has been implemented, he pointed out such led to lower crime, and lower drug use overall.

One speaker, who produced a bottle of cannabis oil he had received through the post, asserted this cured his prostate cancer. Others highlighted the current use of Sativex by the National Health Service, with a cost in-excess of £150 for a single bottle of GW Pharmaceuticals patented spray — as-compared to the oil shown to the crowd, with a manufacturing cost of approximately £10.

Similar ‘420’ pro-cannabis events were held globally.

University of Southern California spit test predicts cavities

Monday, February 21, 2005

Los Angeles, California —A simple saliva test can predict whether children will get cavities, how many cavities they will get and which teeth are most vulnerable.

Developed by researchers at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, the test quantifies the genetic component of tooth decay, spotting the risk when something can be done about it.

“When we apply this to young children, it allows us to predict what might be their future caries history—the number of cavities that they’ll get by, say, their late 20s or early 30s,” says researcher Paul Denny.

Called the Caries Assessment and Risk Evaluation (CARE) test, the test measures the relative proportions in saliva of different types of sugar chains called oligosaccharides. The same sugar chains are present on tooth surfaces.

The effect of sugar chains on teeth’s resistance to disease is analogous to the effect of “good” and “bad” cholesterol on blood vessels. “Good” sugar chains tend to repel bacteria that cause cavities while “bad” allow bacteria to bond to teeth and start the decay process. Unlike cholesterol, however, sugar chain makeup in humans is 100% genetically determined.

Denny and colleagues have found that the sugar chain makeup in saliva can predict a child’s future cavity history to plus or minus one cavity with greater than 98% confidence.

The findings suggest that in developed areas of the modern era genes play a more significant role in tooth decay than in former times or third world nations where gross malnutrition and negligent oral hygiene held the greatest impact on dental health.

McDonald’s unfairly dismissed worker for giving a colleague free cheese, says Dutch court

Wednesday, January 27, 2010

A court in the Netherlands ruled yesterday that the fast-food company McDonald’s over-reacted in dismissing an employee who added a piece of cheese to a colleague’s hamburger without charging for it. McDonalds has been ordered to pay compensation since, the court ruled, “The cost of a slice of cheese is not comparable to a severe step such as redundancy”.

In March 2009, a waitress in Lemmer sold a hamburger to a colleague, and then added some cheese when her colleague asked for some. McDonald’s said that this made the meal a cheeseburger, not a hamburger, and so she was sacked for not charging extra for the cheese. Rules for staff, the company argued, prevented them from giving food away for free.

Now a court in Leeuwarden has ordered McDonald’s to pay her more than €4,200 (about US$5,900 or £3,700), since it decided that a written warning would have been a more appropriate reaction. The compensation is for five months of lost earnings, with holiday pay and interest.

The court noted that the manager of the branch had not asked the employee for an explanation before firing her, nor had McDonald’s considered taking action against the colleague who asked for the cheese. “The dismissal was too severe a measure. It is just a slice of cheese,” said the court.

In present-day setting, persons select conferencing calls than any other sort of communication. Communication between more than two people is not ever a concern with conference calls. There are different kinds of conference calls: audio conference calls, video conference calls and webconference calls. Forthright judgments are created while on conference calls and cost-effective savings on your part as well. Call providers bill their clients depending on the time of calls either on a per hour or per minute basis. After completing your subscription, you will have your toll free pin number. And you will have to send the pin number to all conference call members.

To manage your conference call, the 10 crucial steps are as follows:

1. Settle on a convenient date and time and be sure that the concerned members are well updated.

2. You should get in touch with your conference call service provider and pay your subscription.

3. The toll free number and pin number must be given to all members in advance.

4. Make no misstep by booking a time slot.

5. On the date of the conference call meeting, concerned participants have to ringthe toll free number and need to enter the pin number. Instantly after doing the said procedure, the conference call can now occur. Participants will be able to interact with the discussion and at the same time provide opinions on the vital matters attended.

6. Take note that it is the individual who has paid the subscription or the host of the call who will supervise the conference. He will also end the conference call unless arrangements are made to continue the call.

7. In sharing information or illustrations, you need to prepare a web conference.

8. Make a recording of your conference call.

9. Most conference calls are billed per minute and have a 30 day billing cycle, so better confirm the billing system.

10. Check out for consistency of service before you register; likewise if the service provider makes use of digital lines.

Staying current on the level of competition in the market, conference calls these days have become affordable, fast activation of accounts within the hour of subscribing and a maximum of 200 members can be accommodated per call.

During the conference call meeting, direct it in a methodical fashion by creating a program and appointing an individual to record the minutes of the conference call. Set it as rule to all participants to introduce themselves when they talk, make notes during the call and get used to utilizing a head set; and make certain that no phone static will obstruct the discussion.

Save time and money by exploring online where you can research the characteristics of a variety of conference call providers including toll free conference calling, and assess which offer affordable services without compromising service quality.

Virtual conferences are now here for businesses around the globe. To keep up with the global market many companies are getting into free international conference calling to make the leap without investing too much money or effort.

OnConference was founded in 2002 by Nortel Networks veterans with over a decade of experience building, supporting, and selling telecommunications products to the largest companies in the world. In the wake of the telecommunications build up of the late 90s, major multi-national players had overbuilt their infrastructures and had excess capacity. OnConference was able to secure deals to put that capacity to work as a virtual network operator.

The Indian government has begun to send humanitarian aid to the earthquake hit Yogyakarta region of Indonesia. The relief effort, named Operation Marham involves the Indian Air Force and the Indian Navy and aims to deliver aid materials to the victims.
