A Look at Bathroom Vanity Mirrors

Bathroom Vanity Mirrors are an integral component of the bathroom vanity. Mirrors are often included in vanity sets. The most frequently asked question when purchasing a mirror for a bathroom vanity is: should it be a medicine cabinet as well? Clearly this depends on where the bathroom is located and how it will be used. However if a medicine cabinet is required, a home designer does not have to compromise style or aesthetic lines.

Detailed info and services about bathroom vanity here

Today’s market is filled with options that hide hinges, fixtures, handles and metal edges. Glass Medicine cabinets, for example, are an elegant inclusion to any designer’s plans.   One popular option in shoreline homes is the rust proof anodized aluminum interior. A mirror that doubles as a cabinet can be visually pleasing as well as functional and sturdy.

A distinctive mirror with elegance and charm, either contemporary or traditional, can be easily acquired regardless of cost. A fine example of a more traditional mirror might be a French decorative wall mirror with original gilt finish and glass.  This mirror would include a typical French decoration with a central maiden’s head and ribbon and swag decoration, c.1870. If you purchase an antique mirror you may want to replace the glass, as old glass tends to be cloudy and specked. Antique mirror designs come in a wide array of sizes and shapes combining artistry and craftsmanship of times past, and adding warmth, interest and drama to any bathroom vanity.

If a more contemporary or simple approach to decoration is your goal, then mirrors crafted of hardwoods with few design elements are an excellent choice to complement the traditional modern bathroom vanity or the cool contemporary bathroom vanity set. Frameless mirrors with triple and double doors can add style and interest over a basic white sink or top. The combination of glass and chrome adds a modern touch to any bathroom setting. Bathroom vanity mirrors have the potential to integrate a wide variety of materials present in other vanity components, such as unique woods, aluminum, or glass, creating a truly original and complete bathroom design.

Celtic Music — Mandolin, Mandola, Bouzouki

Consider the instruments used by your favorite celtic group — certainly, there’s a fiddle … and there may be a tinwhistle and perhaps some bagpipes. There’s probably a guitar and a bodhran (a sort of handheld drum) — but what about those other stringed instruments?

You may find a mandolin or a mandola in the group — and perhaps a bouzouki. In fact, a bouzouki may take the place of the guitar. What makes these instruments useful in celtic folk music?

More on best country songs here

First off, you’re probably familiar with a mandolin. It’s a small (pretty much violin-sized) strummed or plucked instrument — you can finger chords on it and strum it, or you can pluck individual strings to play a melody. Mandolin’s are common to most types of folk or country music. They have essentially the same scale length as a violin (the strings are about the same length) — in fact, it’s normally tuned exactly like a violin — GDAE! This makes it very easy to learn both instruments.

The mandolin has a high, ringing tone. When playing accompanying chords, the mandolin’s high pitch and sharp attach have an almost percussive effect … making it an excellent rhythm instrument. Since the mandolin isn’t loud when individual notes are plucked, most solo playing requires a fast and repeated picking technique.

The mandola is a little larger than the mandolin — giving it a lower pitch. Some tune it a fifth down from a mandolin — CGDA. Some folks even tune an entire octave lower — although the scale length isn’t really long enough for proper intonation. The lower tones alter the effect of strummed chords — instead of a sharp and ringing attack (like a mandolin), the effect is much closer to a guitar where the chords flow naturally to the background. Sharp and bright chords jump to the forefront of a song — sometimes this is good, but usually you want your rhythym instruments to be complimentary, not a featured solo instrument.

If lower is better for chord playing, then why not go all the way to an octave mandolin? Tuned like a mandolin to GDAE … except an octave lower … the octave mandolin also has a scale length close to a guitar. And here’s where we start running into problems!

How far can your fingers stretch? Most chords on a guitar span 4 frets at the most — with 3 being the most common maximum stretch. Mandolin chords often span 4 frets — with some having a 5 fret span. When played on a short scale mandolin, this stretch isn’t a problem. When the scale length approaches 2 feet or so (about a guitar’s scale length), the required fret stretch is simply too much for most players.

A bouzouki has this same problem — originally used for Greek folk music, a bouzouki is tuned like an octave mandolin. This lower tuning makes it ideal for a celtic rhythm instrument — except for the required fret stretch.

Because of this, you often see bouzoukis or octave mandolins tuned differently for celtic music — GDAD. Chord fretting in this tuning is much easier and the longer scale length (a few inches longer than an octave mandolin) results in deep, long sustaining chords — making a bouzouki a perfect rhythm instrument for celtic music!

Joey Robichaux operates Celtic Sheet Music, where mandolin players can freely download over 3,000 celtic fiddle tunes!

As increase in digital music sales slows, record labels look to new ways to make money

Tuesday, August 31, 2010

Every September, the Apple iPod is redesigned. Last year saw the release of the iPod Nano 5th generation, bringing a video camera and a large range of colours to the Nano for the first time. But as Apple again prepares to unveil a redesigned product, the company has released their quarterly sales figures—and revealed that they have sold only 9m iPods for the quarter to June—the lowest number of sales since 2006, leading industry anylists to ponder whether the world’s most successful music device is in decline.

Such a drop in sales is not a problem for Apple, since the iPhone 4 and the iPad are selling in high numbers. But the number of people buying digital music players are concerning the music industry. Charles Arthur, technology editor of The Guardian, wrote that the decline in sales of MP3 players was a “problem” for record companies, saying that “digital music sales are only growing as fast as those of Apple’s devices – and as the stand-alone digital music player starts to die off, people may lose interest in buying songs from digital stores. The music industry had looked to the iPod to drive people to buy music in download form, whether from Apple’s iTunes music store, eMusic, Napster or from newer competitors such as Amazon.”

Mark Mulligan, a music and digital media analyst at Forrester Research, said in an interview that “at a time where we’re asking if digital is a replacement for the CD, as the CD was for vinyl, we should be starting to see a hockey-stick growth in download sales. Instead, we’re seeing a curve resembling that of a niche technology.” Alex Jacob, a spokesperson for the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry, which represents the worldwide music industry, agreed that there had been a fall in digital sales of music. “The digital download market is still growing,” they said. “But the percentage is less than a few years ago, though it’s now coming from a higher base.” Figures released earlier this year, Arthur wrote, “show that while CD sales fell by 12.7%, losing $1.6bn (£1bn)in value, digital downloads only grew by 9.2%, gaining less than $400m in value.”

Expectations that CDs would, in time, become extinct, replaced by digital downloads, have not come to light, Jacob confirmed. “Across the board, in terms of growth, digital isn’t making up for the fall in CD sales, though it is in certain countries, including the UK,” he said. Anylising the situation, Arthur suggested that “as iPod sales slow, digital music sales, which have been yoked to the device, are likely to slow too. The iPod has been the key driver: the IFPI’s figures show no appreciable digital download sales until 2004, the year Apple launched its iTunes music store internationally (it launched it in the US in April 2003). Since then, international digital music sales have climbed steadily, exactly in line with the total sales of iPods and iPhones.”

Nick Farrell, a TechEYE journalist, stated that the reason for the decline in music sales could be attributed to record companies’ continued reliance on Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple, saying that they had considered him the “industry’s saviour”, and by having this mindset had forgotten “that the iPod is only for those who want their music on the run. What they should have been doing is working out how to get high quality music onto other formats, perhaps even HiFi before the iPlod fad died out.”

Have you found that you are spending less on music and more on apps, e-books, or television shows?
Add or view comments

When Jobs negotiated a deal with record labels to ensure every track was sold for 99 cents, they considered this unimportant—the iPod was not a major source of revenue for the company. However, near the end of 2004, there was a boom in sales of the iPod, and the iTunes store suddenly began raking in more and more money. The record companies were irritated, now wanting to charge different amounts for old and new songs, and popular and less popular songs. “But there was no alternative outlet with which to threaten Apple, which gained an effective monopoly over the digital music player market, achieving a share of more than 70%” wrote Arthur. Some did attempt to challenge the iTunes store, but still none have succeeded. “Apple is now the largest single retailer of music in the US by volume, with a 25% share.”

The iTunes store now sells television shows and films, and the company has recently launced iBooks, a new e-book store. The App Store is hugely successful, with Apple earning $410m in two years soley from Apps, sales of which they get 30%. In two years, 5bn apps have been downloaded—while in seven years, 10bn songs have been purchased. Mulligan thinks that there is a reason for this—the quality of apps simply does not match up to a piece of music. “You can download a song from iTunes to your iPhone or iPad, but at the moment music in that form doesn’t play to the strengths of the device. Just playing a track isn’t enough.”

Adam Liversage, a spokesperson of the British Phonographic Industry, which represents the major UK record labels, notes that the rise of streaming services such as Spotify may be a culprit in the fall in music sales. Revenues from such companies added up to $800m in 2009. Arthur feels that “again, it doesn’t make up for the fall in CD sales, but increasingly it looks like nothing ever will; that the record business’s richest years are behind it. Yet there are still rays of hope. If Apple – and every other mobile phone maker – are moving to an app-based economy, where you pay to download games or timetables, why shouldn’t recording artists do the same?”

Well, apparently they are. British singer Peter Gabriel has released a ‘Full Moon Club’ app, which is updated every month with a new song. Arthur also notes that “the Canadian rock band Rush has an app, and the industrial rock band Nine Inch Nails, led by Trent Reznor – who has been critical of the music industry for bureaucracy and inertia – released the band’s first app in April 2009.” It is thought that such a system will be an effective method to reduce online piracy—”apps tend to be tied to a particular handset or buyer, making them more difficult to pirate than a CD”, he says—and in the music industry, piracy is a very big problem. In 2008, the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry estimated that 95% of downloads were illegitimate. If musicians can increase sales and decrease piracy, Robert says, it can only be a good thing.

“It’s early days for apps in the music business, but we are seeing labels and artists experimenting with it,” Jacob said. “You could see that apps could have a premium offering, or behind-the-scenes footage, or special offers on tickets. But I think it’s a bit premature to predict the death of the album.” Robert concluded by saying that it could be “premature to predict the death of the iPod just yet too – but it’s unlikely that even Steve Jobs will be able to produce anything that will revive it. And that means that little more than five years after the music industry thought it had found a saviour in the little device, it is having to look around again for a new stepping stone to growth – if, that is, one exists.”

A computerized diagnostic service also may be performed to identify any problems not easily seen. Depending on the age of the vehicle, the mechanic may adjust the idle speed and ignition timing. This is only necessary on older models since computers automatically control idle and timing on newer cars and trucks.

Fuel filters block tiny particles of debris in gasoline or diesel fuel that otherwise could get into the engine.

Although vehicle owners miles. Vehicle owners normally drive for years before getting a tuneup. They may not realize it’s time for a tuneup unless the “check engine” light comes on.

Of course, pricing also varies among garages for the same model and automotive work. Vehicle owners might want to call a few places to learn the cost of a standard tuneup. They should keep in mind, however, that the cheapest price doesn’t always mean the best option.

Essentially, a tuneup is intended to make an engine run smoother, improve performance, and boost fuel economy. Contact American Imports to schedule the service if it is due or if the vehicle has any symptoms indicating the need for a tuneup.

Worsened Self Image:

Cosmetic surgery is not necessarily a purely aesthetic choice few choose it out of low self esteem and depression. If this is the true intention behind the surgery, than you will most probably never feel better after surgery because the underlying problems will still be unresolved.

All in all, however, if complications are few and the benefits far outweigh the risks then Cosmetic Surgery is a procedure that can change your life for the better.

Preparing For Rhinoplasty

If you are considering Rhinoplasty, it is important to take the time to determine why you want the surgery in the first place. If you have a medical need, or if you truly feel that reshaping your nose will improve your quality of life, then you are a good candidate if you meet the aforementioned criteria.

While some people think that Rhinoplasty is just a cosmetic procedure, it is in fact a medical procedure required for some people. Rhinoplasty is done, not just to enhance your appearance but to also contribute to your overall health. Although having a Rhinoplasty is common for Hollywood and bollywood celebrities and those who work in the limelight, certain life circumstances can force you to go under the knife. Here are some medically-necessary reasons that require you to have Rhinoplasty .

Appropriate Consultation

The most appropriate way to consider your competency for any kind of plastic surgery is to schedule an appointment with a proficient surgeon.

During the first encounter the doctor will try to understand why you feel the need to have a surgery and also what are your expectations from the outcome of the surgery.

The physician will evaluate your medical history; inquire about your current medication and medical condition. He should also be aware of everything you take, including vitamin supplements or herbal products since they might interfere with other medicines used during surgery. The surgeon might ask you to perform blood tests and a few general lab tests to monitor your current health status.

The surgeon will perform a physical exam, to have a close look at the skin, associated muscles and bones, their quality and the kind of changes that can be made. Surgeon might also suggest an additional surgery which will enhance or compliment your look.

And last but not the least; the physician will assess your mental fitness to check whether you are ready to undergo the surgery.

RECOVERY TIME

Recovery is basically the time required to get back to a relatively normal routine.

Patients who wish to undergo a cosmetic surgery must plan for time off to heal and to be comfortable being seen in public.

The healing time can vary from person to person and will also depend on the type of surgery to be performed.

It can take up to two – three weeks to return to work and perform everyday activities. After consulting with the doctor, People can utilise this time to go on a vacation or nurture themselves.

THE OUTCOME:

Sometimes the Rhinoplasty doesn’t produce the results the patient imagines. This gap between imagination and reality may frustrate patient.

Expecting unrealistic results, like the surgery will make you look like a Hollywood or Bollywood star and automatically solve all of your problems, can be a significant drawback to having cosmetic procedures.

To have a better experience, it is extremely important to consult a qualified doctor before planning the surgery and develop a rational idea of what the end result will look like.

AFTER EFFECTS OF SURGERY

Pain:

There are chances of having mild to moderate pain and discomfort post surgery. The pain can be easily regulated with oral medications.

The distress and pain should reduce within 72 hours after surgery. A reasonable increase in pain post 72 hours should prompt you to contact the doctor.

Swelling:

Swelling can differ from patient to patient. It might increase during first three to four days before subsiding.

Things that can be done to reduce swelling include keeping the head elevated as much as possible; avoid bending over or lifting heavy objects.

Prolonged sun exposure should also be avoided for the initial two to three months.

Discoloration

Most bruising and discoloration resolve within the first two to three weeks. Make up can be applied to cover up the discolouration when been seen in public.

Numbness

The body part that undergoes the surgery can be numb for few days. The feeling of numbness is normal and shall reduce over upcoming weeks. Unusual sensations and moderate discomfort can persist while the nerves are regenerating over time.

Bleeding

Sometimes bleeding can occur, post surgery. You can lie down with your head elevated but if the bleeding still persists at this point, it would be advisable to consult your doctor.

Depression

It is perfectly alright for patients to go through a period of mild depression after the cosmetic surgery as after some days or weeks which depends on surgery, patients generally becomes anxious and expects the results when swelling and bruising still persists. But the patient should realize that it is a temporary condition and things are bound to improve over a period of time.

Post Surgery Do’s And Don’ts

Ask your doctor for better and suitable guidelines. Following are the general instructions which should help you get the best results from your surgery.

Post Surgery do’s and don’ts:

  • No vigorous exercise, contact sports and running for minimum of two weeks.
  • No lifting heavy objects for at least 3 weeks.
  • Avoid pullover clothing for two weeks especially if you have undergone a face surgery.
  • Bypass hard chewing foods for a few days.
  • Avoid yawning and wide mouth opening for two to three weeks.

You should be prompt enough to contact the doctor immediately, for any signs of bleeding that persist for more than ten minutes, infections, redness, swelling, fever, pain etc.

EXERCISING AFTER RHINOPLASTY

After cosmetic surgery many patients asks about post surgery exercise or when can they resume their gym activity. Patients needs to understand that, its extremely crucial to give enough time for proper healing of your body, for eg strain on muscles, excessive sweating, stretching of the skin etc. can delay the recovery.

You need to consult your doctor about

  • How soon you can start exercising?
  • What type of exercise?
  • How much time?

Don’t start exercise without asking your doctor and follow guidelines given by your doctor as for complete healing, body needs time, and you need enough energy level for your routine and gym.

Great Plains Consultant Notes: Sales Tax Calculation and Reporting in Dynamics GP

If you are upgrading your corporate ERP and accounting application to Microsoft Dynamics GP, former Great Plains Dynamics, you should expect some additional flexibility in your Sales reporting.

State Sales Tax reporting is typical candidate to learn new functionality and make probing calculations.  In this small publication, which is intended to end Dynamics GP user, not GP consultant, we would like to give you some technical highlights:

Click the link for particulars about international tax consultants atlanta

1. Inventory items and Sales Tax accruing.  You have several options for Sales Tax calculation: non-taxable (such as something that is in essence the service: Freight, Insurance, Bank Wire Transfer charges), in this case select Not Taxable in Inventory Item Maintenance screen on the left side (from Sales perspective).  And now the majority of your physical items, such as merchandize should be marked as Based On Customer

2. Invoice Subtotal and Total Taxable Sale Amount.  Here you need to understand nuances – in your monthly Sales Tax report (Reports->Company->Taxes) – only Total Taxable Sale Amount is summarized in it.  If some GP inventory items are taxable and others are not, then two amounts (Total Sales, and Total Taxable Sales) will deviate. This means, that you cannot use AR transactions register for the month to reconcile your sales tax amounts

3. Sales Tax under the hood.  We recommend you to review Sales Tax in the following tables: RM20101 – posted AR transactions, RM10601 – RM Tax Work file.  Receivable Management module is closer to Dynamics GP General Ledger, comparing to Sales Order Processing tables: SOP30200 and SOP10105 (SOP Tax Work and History table).  The nuances typically are related to the fact of voiding Sales Invoices in RM module, if you voiding this way, SOP posted invoices (SOP30200 and SOP30300 tables) will remain non-voided

4. Sales Tax for large corporate ERP, when you have to pay State Sales Tax in multiple US states.  In this scenario you typically are calculating Sales Tax based on Ship to Zip code. There are multiple Dynamics GP ISV partners with their Great Plains Add-ons to consider, Avalara for example

5. Sales Register report.  In Crystal reports, we recommend Sales Register report for those of you who has tax incentives from the StateArticle Submission, give us a call on details

California employees owe state US$13.3 million in unpaid loans

Sunday, April 24, 2011

The California Controller’s office reports that eleven state agencies have given US$13.3 million in pay and travel advances that have not been collected.

Governor Jerry Brown issued an executive order to recover uncollected loans by the agencies. A press release from the governor’s office states, “The Governor’s Executive Order seeks to recover taxpayer dollars by directing state agencies and departments to clear salary and travel advances within 30 days through an expense claim.” Any outstanding balance will be deducted from employees’ paychecks under the governor’s order after the 30 days.

Under California state law, state employees are permitted to receive advances for hardship, travel, and other circumstances. These advances cannot be collected by agencies after three years without the employee’s consent.

State Controller John Chiang said in a statement, “The state’s poor debt collection and accounting practices are fleecing public coffers at a time when vital public programs are being decimated by unprecedented budget cuts.” Chiang’s office expects there will be more money unaccounted for, including some from the California Highway Patrol (CHP). California state law mandates that anyone convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol is required to pay for the investigation. The CHP has not collected this money.

The California Department of Transportation, also called Caltrans, has the largest debt of the eleven agencies: $3.2 million. Cal Fire, or the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, “had an outstanding balance of $1.44 million as of June 30, 2008. An overwhelming portion of that balance was related to employee salary and travel advances,” according to a controller’s office audit.

Chiang’s office had informed former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger there were outstanding debts, but Schwarzenegger’s administration did not take action.

All eleven agencies have agreed to hand over any delinquent accounts to the controller’s office, who will collect these debts.
