Winter comes and along with it is the fun and revelry brought about by snow. Children playing, ice skating in the park and ice fishing are some things you can now enjoy. However, too much of anything can be bad and too much snow on the road is not good for you or your car for that matter. Being stuck in snow can be an annoyance. The difficulty of removing your car from being stuck in the freezing cold and dark weather is one of the key reasons people don t like snow. However, there are simple ways on how you can get you and your car safely back on the road. No matter how powerful your car is, safety should always come first and it is important to not rush and just take your time in getting out of the situation.

Survey your area and find out which route out you can use that has thinner snow patch. Do not rush as the wrong route can get you in deeper trouble. While the whole area may look knee-deep in snow, there are still some areas that you can go around that are slightly thinner.

Get your wheels as straight as possible before you even try to move out. Driving away from this problem would be a lot easier if your wheels are kept straight as wheels positioned sideways would be very difficult to maneuver. Straight wheels alone may not get you out, but it is an important step.

Alternate between going forward and backward so that you create paths in the snow, which will make it a lot easier to get out of the snow. Do not struggle to go straight out as this will be more difficult. Instead, gather momentum as you go backwards and forward.

Control your wheel movement and do not rush. A sudden move in this slippery situation can make you lose traction and eventually, your control. Take your time because rushing to get out can make your car drift. Use the lowest gear shift setting.

If you are still stuck, then it may be helpful to get out of the car and manually remove some of the snow from around the tires. You can use your boots to kick some of the snow out of the way or if you have a small shovel, then you can use it to remove some of the snow and ice that is getting in the way.

If you feel you need tools to help you out, simple items like salt, sand and small stones or pieces of woods can help. Pour salt to help the ice melt while sand, small stones or pieces of stones can provide added traction as you find your way out.

Be thoroughly conscious and be prepared to apply brakes immediately so you can prevent even worse situations like spinning and skidding.

No one enjoys being stuck in the snow when driving. It all adds to inconvenience that is really not welcome, especially during the holiday season. But since Mother Nature has her own ways, we have to be armed with tools that can help us in such difficult situations.

Shed Plans 10×12 For Diy

 • Get More Information Here:

By Verny L

For those of us who like to do things ourselves, shed plans 10×12 would come in handy for building that shed you want. If you are not sure where you could these kinds of plans, you should look online. There are all sorts of websites that offer these types of things, though you might want to check out everything that you get before you buy them. While most sites do try to make sure their plans are easy to understand and use; not all of them will. While some prices will vary a little bit, these plans should be reasonably priced as a general rule.

Some of the things that you are going to want to get with the shed plans 10×12 would be materials lists, easy to follow instructions, and diagrams. Most sites do make sure that all of these things can be used readily by the average person, but not all of them will make sure that they are easy. You should also look (if available) to see what kind of tooling their plans require. You are not going to want to go out and buy a bunch of expensive tools to do this. One of the reasons you are going to want to do it yourself is to save money, and you can’t do that if you are spending the money on tools you might never use again.

Now, I have already said that saving money is one of the reasons you might want shed plans 10×12, but there are others. You might want a certain style of shed that you cannot buy at the local stores. If you can, it will probably cost you a bit more because they have to order it. With plans you can choose which style you like. There are garden, barn, and even cottage style plans available to you. You are sure to find one that will suit your needs and taste from all the ones that are available on the internet. Also, remember that you can decide the final look as well with trim and paint.

Convenience in another reason for the use of shed plans 10×12. If you are ordering them online, chances are that you can download them right away. It also means that you can print out as many copies as you need (save the download to the computer). This is a really nice feature to make sure you always have what you need. Pages can always get lost or ripped, but you can print out another copy easily enough if you downloaded it.

These are just a few reasons why you might want to get shed plans 10×12. There are probably countless others out there. However, saving money, assuring quality, choosing styles, and convenience are still among the top ones. No matter which your reason is, you can get a lot of satisfaction out of doing the work yourself and saving hundreds of dollars while doing it. There is nothing better than having your cake and being able to eat it too.

Dimming Led Or Cfl, Difficult, Not Impossible!

 • Get More Information Here:
 • Electrical Engineering And Design Mudgee

Submitted by: Chris Horridge

Depending on which type of light you want to dim, choosing a dimmer switch can go from being a fairly simple task to a very complicated one. If you are dimming halogen or incandescent lighting loads then this is straightforward as most will function perfectly well. However, dimming Compact Fluorescent Lamp (CFL) or Light Emitting Diode (LED) can be complicated as both the dimmer switch and the light must be compatible. LED in particular is the hardest as there are many different types available, all containing different types of dimming technology. Downlights Direct works closely with both lighting and switch manufacturers to provide the most up-to-date advice and pre-sales support.

Leading Edge or Trailing Edge Dimmer?

Leading edge and trailing edge are two different types of dimmer technology. Leading edge is the most popular because it is cheaper. Leading edge contains a triac and a coil. Leading edge may buzz slightly when in operation and the minimum load is quite high. This is not a problem when dimming incandescent or halogen but can be when dimming CFL or LED. Trailing edge dimmers are now available that have a minimum adjustment dial, turning the dial down to its lowest setting allows less lamps to dimmed and a wider range of dimming i.e. 100% down to 10%.

Trailing edge technology uses solid state components like insulated gate bipolar transistors (IGBT). It has no triac or coil providing a silent, smoother dimming action. The other advantage of using trailing edge is that the minimum load is lower. When dimming some LED lights, such as the Halers EvoLED downlight the load is rated at 10W instead of 50W if using trailing edge. This allows for far more lights to be dimmed, potentially up to 30x lights on one switch.

When dimming CFL you must ensure that the lamp is dimmable. There are very few dimmable CFL lamps on the market mainly because LED has overtaken it. The most popular is the Megaman 11W GU10. This lamp needs to be turned up to full brightness on start up for a few minutes before it is dimmed or the life expectancy of the lamp will be reduced. Depending on the minimum and maximum wattage, the ECU range, GRID500 or MP500 are compatible. Although cheaper in price, dimming CFL is not worth the hassle; LED is better in every way:

Like with CFL, you must ensure that the LED you choose is dimmable as most are not. LED technology has developed rapidly over the past few years however, dimmer switch manufactures have reacted slowly, if at all, to the change. There are many different types of dimmable LED bulbs and LED downlights available. Consequently, consumers are often challenged to understand which combinations of LEDs and dimmers are compatible.

LED bulbs are harder to dim than complete LED downlights. Downlights Direct recommends Philips branded dimmable LED bulbs for use with Richmond leading edge dimmers such as the ECU range, GRID500 or MP500 – this is a tried and tested solution that works successfully.

Complete LED downlights such as the Halers EvoLED will dim with both leading and trailing edge dimmers but not with all makes!

Having decided on which LED you want to install, selecting the correct LED dimmer switch should be based on the following:

1. Compatibility; ideally, the LED manufacturer will have a list of recommended dimmer switches. Selecting a random dimmer switch may work perfectly well however, a dimmer switch that is incompatible can cause flickering and in some cases, permanent damage to the LED.

2. Quantity of LEDs; dimming results can vary depending on how many LED lights are in the circuit. LED loads are not rated the same as halogen, for example 10x5W LEDs is not the same as1x50W halogen. De-rating factors may need to be considered and vary from brand to brand. Selecting a compatible dimmer for the wrong quantity of LED lights could cause flickering and reduce the range of dimming, i.e. the lights won t dim down to 10%.

3. Aesthetics; if you like the look of your current dimmer switch but it is not compatible and causes your LEDs to flicker; modules such as the MP500 can be easily swapped. Keep the look, upgrade the technology.

To summarise, Downlights Direct has spent a lot of time and effort researching this task and can confidently advise on the best LED and dimmer switch combination for your lighting installation.

Pond Liners Buyer Beware

 • Get More Information Here:
 • Cheap New & Used Containers Melbourne Australia

Submitted by: Doug Hoover

Do you waste your money on lottery tickets? Feed your hard earned money to the one-armed bandits in the casinos? Drive without a seat belt? Then a pond liner is for you. You obviously like taking chances and are not too concerned about the outcome. Well, when someone spends thousands of dollars on a liner pond, they are playing the odds. Will their liner pond leak or not. From my 26 years experience in the pond business, I can assure you that the odds are not in your favor. This is an article the liner pond dudes do not want you to read. If you were not giving my industry such a bad name, there would be no need for this writing.

The liner pond gurus such as the “Liner messiah” with his own magazine and catalog, recruits unsuspecting followers with a “Build a Liner Pond Day”, and shows how easy it is to get something for next to nothing. Here is what these liner pond guys do:

o Lay out the pond with a garden hose

o Remove the sod and dig the hole

o Drop in our guaranteed line

o Fill with wate

o Drop in our pump

o Run our pipe

o Throw a piece of our liner on the pile of discarded dirt

o Stick in our filte

o Cover pile of dirt with loose rock

o Turn on our pump

o Throw in your fish

o Collect your money and split.

Does this sound a bit harsh on the pond liner industry? Well, here is “the rest of the story. “I am going to add a few more items that the liner pond guys omitted:

o Ground squirrels

o Gophers

o Mice

o Rats

o Chipmunks

o Moose

o Sharp rocks

o Heavy rocks

o Falling rocks

o Sharp objects

o Tree roots

o Plant & weed roots

o Leaky drain seal

o Leaky skimmer seal

o Kids with sharp or pointed objects

Did the liner pond guy offer you a discount if any of the above occurred in your pond? Here is what you would have had to do if any of them happened in your newly-built liner pond (and I know the Liner Guy did not give you this list):

o Take out the fish

o Turn off the pump

o Take out the loose rock (hope you did not use too many)

o Pump out the pond

o Take out the pump

o Take out the line

o Spread out the liner on the lawn

o Clean off the dirt and algae

o Inspect every square inch of the liner for holes.

(Sure, there are short cuts, but if you assume you have fixed the problem after patching a hole, put everything back and then discover there was more than one hole, you might be a tad irritated. Remember this rule of thumb: one pinhole and you can lose five gallons of water every 24 hours!)

o Patch the hole or holes

o Repeat the whole process over again, only in reverse.

Hey, sound familiar? It should, with the exception of laying out the garden hose and digging a hole, you have just built another water feature!

If it had been done the professional way to begin with, all this time to tear it apart and put it back together could have been used to design and build another permanent project with steel and concrete.

Can you imagine if this scenario was referring to a project involving large boulders that were set in place with heavy equipment such as an end loader or crane? Not to mention lawn sprinklers, flower gardens, trees and shrubs that were growing there, and sidewalks and hardscapes installed! It can cost 30% more to tear out a liner pond and replace it with a professional one made with rebar and concrete. Where as if they had built a professional waterfall and pond in the first place it would have only cost about 20% more. Does the term penny wise and pound foolish mean anything to you?

Look before you leap and research before you weep. Happy koi, peace and joy.

Why People Love And Collect Antique Cars

 • Get More Information Here:

Submitted by: Donk

Antique cars and classic cars collecting, restoring, and showing have become the number one pass time for many classic car enthusiasts. Whether you’re new to antique cars as a hobby, or a seasoned collector, the internet has information on classic cars, car parts, accessories, car shows and antique car sales, and more.

The first antique automobile was made in 1672 by a Chinese monk, and was steam powered. Then, around 1769, The Cugnot Steam Trolley was capable of transporting humans was produced. Other steam engine cars followed. By today s standards, the steam car would be considered a green alternative to modern gas guzzlers. New hybrid cars still don’t operate on nothing but steam power like the steam trolley did over two hundred years ago.

It wasn’t until 1806 that the first car with an internal combustible engine appeared. The internal combustible engine cars began to hook us all on vehicles that were powered with the use of gas and oil. In 1885, a more modern version of the internal combustible engine car was introduced. Even electric cars were designed very early in the twentieth century, but faded out in favor of gas powered vehicles. The Ford Museum, in Detroit, MI. still has a running, working model of Ford’s first electric motor on display. Antique Ford cars are highly collectible and well known in classic car circles.

There are several eras of collectible automobile history. Each era has a specific term to define the particular types of classic cars made during those time frames. Knowing certain antique car terms can help you to decide which antique car era you want to focus on as an antique car collector or restorer.

Classic cars from the 1890’s and earlier are termed “Veteran Era” antique autos. From around the 1900’s to 19190, those classic cars are generally referred to as the “Brass”, or “Edwardian” era collector cars. A very popular area for antique car collectors is the “Vintage” 1920’s era classics. Through the 1930’s to the 1950’s, there are “Pre-war” era classic cars. 1950’s through 1970’s are termed: “Post-war” classic or antique cars.

Cars that are twenty years old or older are generally referred to as “antique” cars. Another classic and collector car term you will hear is the term: “muscle cars”; which generally refer to sports cars made between the 1960’s to 1980’s. Whatever your classic antique car interest may be, the internet gives all the information, history, and antique car sales.

Antique Car collecting and restoration is a hobby practiced by people all over the world. Even American celebrities fall in love with them. Jay Leno, in addition to hosting the Tonight Show, is known for his huge collection of antique cars and motorcycles going all the way back to the early 20th century. Past stars known for their love of cars are Larry Hagman and Steve McQueen.

One of the reasons people love antique cars is that, for them, it brings back childhood or teenage memories. Maybe they had their first date in that car, or that is the car the family when on annual picnics, or maybe it was the car to have when they were young but they couldn’t afford it. The nostalgia market is worth billions of dollars and those longing for the antique autos of their youth account for only a small piece of it.

Human cells grow blood vessels in mice

Sunday, July 20, 2008

Researchers in the United States reported Saturday that cells from human bone marrow, blood and umbilical cords successfully grew into blood vessels after being placed in mice. The group at Harvard Medical School and Children’s Hospital Boston stated that the human cells, referred to as “progenitor cells”, connected to the circulatory system of the mice. The team, lead by Harvard associate professor of medicine Joyce Bischoff, reported their findings in the journal Circulation Research, published by the American Heart Association.

Red blood cells (erythrocytes) Image: Drs. Noguchi, Rodgers, and Schechter of NIDDK (National Institutes of Health).

Juan M. Melero-Martin, a co-author of the paper in Circulation Research, said that one of the project’s goals is to be able to replace some types of heart surgery with an injection of cells grown in a lab that could develop into functioning blood vessels.

“For clinical use, the way we envision it, if a patient has need to vascularize ischemic tissue, we can get cells from the patient ahead of time, grow them and inject them back into the patient,” said Melero-Martin.

Ischemic tissue refers to tissue that has been damaged due to a lack of blood flow from blocked arteries or other causes. Researchers hope to be able to speed up the process of repairing damaged tissue and vessels in the heart to a period of one or two days. The procedure could potentially be used to treat organs damaged by heart attacks, or other ailments which impede circulation.

Due to their controversial nature the research team did not use stem cells in their study, but rather relied on progenitor cells taken from bone marrow or blood. “Our next goal down the line is to use them in humans. We need to do a lot more animal studies to test how these cells behave in different tissues,” said Joyce Bischoff.

Dr. Nick Rhodes of the UK Centre for Tissue Engineering at the University of Liverpool described the results of the study as “interesting and promising”, and commented: “Although this approach is not yet suitable for clinical use, it is interesting that they have demonstrated you have all the elements you need to create a functional network of capillaries from a small amount of blood.”

McGuinty passes on Caledonia dispute to federal government

Friday, November 3, 2006

Ontario premier Dalton McGuinty wants the federal government to deal with the Caledonia dispute. The Ontario government says that Ottawa alone is responsible for resolving the dispute, along with another 27 land claims.

Indian Affairs Minister Jim Prentice, who refused to meet with David Ramsay, Ontario’s aboriginal affairs minister, said Ottawa and Ontario share responsibility for resolving a land claim on the Six Nations reserve in Southwestern Ontario.

The Ontario government has spent close to $40 million since February, $12 million to purchase the property back from the property developer, and $15 million going to the OPP.

“They are just playing games right now,” Haldimand County Mayor Marie Trainer told the Canadian Press. “We’re in the middle. We’re the ones suffering. . . . I would like them to stop acting like children. I wish they would quit holding Caledonia residents as hostages. It’s pretty frustrating.”

“The province has neither the authority nor the power to settle a land claim, so it’s up to the federal government,” David Ramsay, Ontario’s aboriginal affairs minister said. “And quite frankly, to move these negotiations along, the federal government really needs to bring more vigor to these talks.”

McGuinty is still urging the federal government to “step up to the plate” and to resolve the dispute.

Until then, the Ontario government will have to wait for more discussions with provincial ministers.

How To Control The Smell From The Litter Box

 • Get More Information Here:
 • All Natural Dog Treats Australia

Submitted by: Mikael Rieck

One of the biggest challenges that you face being the owner of an indoor cat is odor control. A liter box doesn’t have to be the main reason that keeps you from brings a cat into your home. There are things that you can do to keep the liter box so fresh that you won’t even know that it is there. Once you bring your new kitten home it is important to decide where you are going to put the litter box.

You want it somewhere that the kitten can easily get to. If you make in hard to access the kitten will find places that are easier for them to get to, when they need to relieve themselves. Another mistake in litter box placement that most new owners tend to make, is trying to hide the litter box away in a small room. This will actually make the smell worse. Smaller rooms in houses tend to be less ventilated, when there is no air flow it is harder for any of the smell to escape.

After you find the perfect spot it is now time to choose the litter that you plan to use. While some cats have no problem adjusting to a litter switch there are those that rebel and will start using the floor. Try to pick one and stay with it, it makes life less stressful to your cats. The best odor control litters are going to be a little more costly, you have to decide if the little extra money is worth a clean smelling house.

A secret a lot of people discovered is getting a clumping multi cat litter even if you only have the one cat in the household. Any litter that you buy can be made better buy adding a little bit of baking soda to it.

Never wait until the litter box is full before you scoop it. Not only does the waste itself add to the odor of your home, but the longer that it sits there the more of a scent it will leave on the rest of the litter. As soon as you see that your cat had used her box, remove the clump immediately. Drop the clump into a bag (get scented diaper bags. They are cost efficient and take the freshness level one step further.) At least once a day check and make sure that you haven’t missed any clumps that the cat may have buried deeper in the box.

Every time that you scoop out a large number of clumps you should add a few cups of fresh littler to the box. Keep in mind that you do not need a large amount of litter in the box at any given time, the more you but in the bigger the mess the cat will make when he or she is digging around. It is a good idea to completely change the littler box once a week taking the time to clean the pan itself before refilling the litter.

Taking a little extra time everyday will ensure that you will keep your cats litter box odor under control. There is no reason to deny yourself or your family the experience of bringing a cat into your home. Having a cat doesn’t mean that you have to give up the freshness that is important to you. Cats are very self sufficient, they are easy to litter box train. All you will have to do is scoop and change the litter and you will have a fresh clean smelling home and all the stress fighting benefits of having a cat in your home.

Paintings worth millions of Swiss francs stolen in Zürich

Monday, February 11, 2008

The Boy in the Red Vest (1894/95) by Paul Cézanne was one of the pieces taken.

On Sunday evening, around 16:30 local time, three armed men wearing ski masks stole four paintings: Claude Monet‘s “Poppy field at Vetheuil,” Edgar Degas‘ “Ludovic Lepic and his Daughter,” Vincent van Gogh‘s “Blooming Chestnut Branches” and Paul Cezanne‘s “Boy in the Red Waistcoat” from Foundation E.G. Bührle museum in Zürich, Switzerland.

The three armed robbers entered the museum half an hour before closing. One man with a pistol forced employees to the ground while the other two men stole the paintings. The whole ordeal lasted only 3 minutes. The men then proceeded to a van and left.

The four paintings are worth a total of 163 million US dollars. It’s said that it would be hard to sell the stolen paintings on the open market due to the popularity of the paintings. There is a reward of 90 thousand US dollars for the artwork.

The robbers, who were still at large, stole the paintings Sunday from the E.G. Bührle Collection, one of Europe’s finest private museums for Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art, police said.

It was the largest art robbery in Swiss history and one of the biggest ever in Europe, said Marco Cortesi, spokesman for the Zürich police. He compared it to the theft in 2004 of Edvard Munch‘s The Scream and Madonna from the Munch Museum in Norway.

Last week, Swiss police reported that two Pablo Picasso paintings were stolen from a Swiss exhibition near Zurich.
