Former Trump advisor, Paul Manafort, receives second sentence in U.S. Federal Court

Friday, March 15, 2019

A former advisor for U.S. President Donald Trump was sentenced in U.S. Federal Court on Wednesday. Paul Manafort was sentenced by Judge Amy Berman Jackson to 73 months in federal prison and to also pay financial restitution to the Internal Revenue Service in the amount of US$6.16 million.

Manafort’s charges involved unregistered foreign lobbying and witness tampering. Judge Jackson clarified in the proceedings that her sentencing decisions were not connected to or impacted by the sentence Manafort received in a separate case for which Manafort was sentenced last week. However, as part of her admonition, Judge Jackson stated, “Saying I’m sorry I got caught is not an inspiring plea for leniency.”

In last week’s action, another federal judge sentenced Manafort to a 47 month prison term. After his conviction in that case last summer, Manafort agreed to help with Robert Mueller’s investigation. However, some months later, the judge in that case determined Manafort had lied and violated that deal. That conviction was related to Manafort’s lobbying business.

In 2018, while preparing for his first trial, Manafort was kept in solitary confinement at least 23 hours per day. In that trial, he faced 18 counts of fraud pertaining to his financial reporting for his pay while working on a foreign campaign in Ukraine.

U.S. state of Utah begins to accept evacuees from Hurricane Katrina

Wednesday, September 7, 2005

Evacuees from New Orleans arrived on Sunday and have continued to come to Utah, utilizing the facilities at Camp Williams, the training facility for the Utah National Guard, to house the incoming people. Flights from New Orleans to Salt Lake City International Airport provided by JetBlue Airways under a contract from FEMA have been shuttling people from New Orleans to many destinations throughout the United States, including Utah.

In addition, Utah Air National Guard relief missions transporting food and other supplies to New Orleans relief efforts have also been returning with people in the cargo areas of the airplanes on return flights. “In keeping with our mission to assist in the security and safety of our homeland, we stand trained, ready, and able to respond to the call to assist our fellow citizens in Louisiana, Mississippi and elsewhere,” said Maj. Gen. Brian Tarbet, Utah National Guard Adjutant General.

The people on board the airplanes had no idea where they were going. In one case the airplane was headed to San Antonio and at the last minute while still airborne the destination was changed to Utah. Peter Coroon, Salt Lake County Mayor: “Some of the people look dazed. Some of them are just happy to be out of where they were. Some of them are eager to find their loves ones they’ve been separated. Some of them weren’t sure where they were going when they left New Orleans.”

Governor John Huntsman, Jr. utilized surplus state funds by declaring a state of emergency to begin efforts housing and clothing people coming to Utah, however some of this will likely be reimbursed by the Federal Government at a later date. He announced that Utah was willing to take up to 1,000 people at shelters in Utah, and that amount was later increased to over 2,000. On Monday, President Bush signed an executive order granting the emergency declaration in Utah to provide Federal assistance for the evacuees in Utah.

After arriving in Utah, one evacuee said “I want to thank the people of Utah for their hospitality and for restoring my faith in America.” Another evacuee said “it seems like heaven, looking at the mountains and getting a breath of fresh air and saying, ‘Thank God we made it.'”

Not all evacuees were pleased with the move to Utah. “I knew where Utah was, but nobody told me that’s where we were going. Nothing personal. It’s nice. But I don’t know anybody here,” said Bergeron, among the first batch of 152 evacuees to arrive at the Camp Williams Utah Army National Guard training site.

The Utah chapter of the American Red Cross has been training volunteers over the Labor Day weekend, and according to one official they have been overwhelmed with community support to help the evacuees. The line of volunteers to receive the training helping those at Camp Williams was litterally out of the door at the Red Cross offices today. One volunteer, Kayelynn Wright said, “The last couple of days we’d talked about it and said, ‘What can we do?’ So when I saw it (a call for volunteers) last night, I called (my neighbor) this morning and said, ‘We gotta go!'” The Red Cross has asked that you contact the local office if you plan on volunteering or donating any new clothing and other items to help the evacuees.

Volunteers from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Saturday gathered at the LDS Humanitarian Center in Salt Lake to assemble more than 50,000 hygiene kits for hurricane victims. Plastic bags were stuffed with toothbrushes and toothpaste, combs, soap, washcloths and hand towels. The supplies will be shipped to a church-owned storehouse Georgia for distribution.

Transportation requests are also being honored by the Utah state government, and evacuees are having transportation to anywhere in the United States paid for at state expense. In addition, a small amount of extra money is being donated directly to each family to help with immediate expenses. The Utah Transit Authority has already established a regular municipal bus service between Camp William and downtown Salt Lake City, which will begin formal service starting tomorrow morning.

Tea Party Etiquette Birthday Fun For Your Child

 • Get More Information Here:
 • Mortgage

By Mike Dougherty

These tips and guidelines will help your child and all her guests enjoy their party and learn proper manners.

How much you follow accepted etiquette really depends on the age of your child and her guests.

For a very young group you may find that simply instructing them to say “please” and “thank you” and to ask for things to be passed rather than reaching for them is acceptable etiquette at your party.

As a parent it might be helpful if you stand beside the table and gently offer guidance as you go. You could even start your party by giving all your guests a short lesson in this party etiquette.

For older children you can use more proper etiquette, but in either case it will be necessary for you to instruct your child and their guests in the fine art of tea party etiquette that you are expecting them to follow.

Have fun

While following good etiquette will make your party more enjoyable and at the same time provide everyone with at least a little education in proper manners, you don’t want your child or their guests to worry about making a mistake.

Make sure everyone understands that if they forget and make a mistake, it’s all right. Tell them to have fun and do their best to remember the etiquette guidelines.

Tea Party Etiquette

I’ve put together a list of helpful tips and guidelines that will help everyone better understand how to do things properly at a tea party without getting too stuffy and formal. We are after all putting together a party for young girls.

A Birthday Tea Party is a wonderful opportunity for your birthday child and her party guests to not only have a lot of fun, but to learn proper manners as well.

Keep in mind the ages of your birthday child and her guests. For very young children you can’t expect them to understand or use much in the way of formal tea etiquette, so you may want to try using only a few simple tea party etiquette guidelines.

Send Your Guests The Etiquette Guidelines

If you feel that your birthday child and her guests are old enough to understand, observe and use more of the following tea party etiquette guidelines, you might want to copy the list we’ve provided here and send these guidelines along with your invitations, informing your guests that you will be following this list of tea party etiquette guidelines. That way, each guest will have an opportunity to become familiar with tea party etiquette and will be more comfortable at your party.

A Gentle Reminder – The Etiquette Game

You can also take a few minutes at the beginning of your tea party to go over these simple guidelines with your guests so that everyone can have fun doing their best to follow the proper etiquette that is expected. You can even make this into a game and reward the guests who observe the best etiquette.

Preparing Your Tea Party

One word about preparing your tea party. Your tea should be served from teapots. Tea bags are just too messy.

Remember It’s Fun

I’ve already said this, but it’s worth repeating. The most important thing to remember is to make sure your birthday child and all her guests have fun. Observing proper tea party etiquette can be a fun part of the party experience, but you don’t want to make your party atmosphere too stiff because everyone is “worried” they will make a mistake.

Tea Party Etiquette Tips and Guidelines

Since most tea party foods are “finger foods” it is perfectly alright to eat with your fingers. If something is a bit messy, use your fork or spoon.

Break off bite-sized pieces of larger foods unless they are messy. In that case, use your fork or spoon

Take bites of small sandwiches. Even if the sandwich is tiny, never put the entire sandwich in your mouth.

When you sugar your tea, be careful not to dip the serving tong or spoon into your tea.

Stir sugar or milk into your tea with your teaspoon. When you are finished stiring, place your teaspoon on your cup saucer.

Drink your tea by holding your cup and saucer up to your chest, then take your teacup off of your saucer and bring your teacup up to your mouth and take a drink.

Don’t slurp or gulp you tea. Just take small sips.

Hold your teacup normally, it is not necessary to “stick out your little finger” (your pinky) while drinking your tea.

If your tea seems too hot to drink, place your cup back on the saucer and return your cup and saucer to the table to let your tea cool off. Never blow on your tea.

You should not reach across the table to pick things up. Instead, politely ask someone to pass the item to you. “Excuse me Cindy, could you please pass the sandwiches?”

Remember to say “please” and “thank you” and “excuse me.”

It’s not polite to talk with your mouth full of food.

Cover your mouth if you need to cough or sneeze.

Be careful not to talk too much, let everyone have a chance to join in the conversation.

Remember to use your napkin.

Do your best to remember and use these etiquette tips and guidelines, but if you forget to do some things properly, don’t worry, have fun.

Thank You Notes

After your child’s tea party is over, proper etiquette also calls for thank you notes to be sent to your party guests. This is a great project for you and your birthday child to work on together.

A Closing Thought

These simple tea party etiquette tips and guidelines will help make your child’s birthday tea party a great success and one they will remember fondly for years to come.

Lawmakers ask US Secretary of State for Gaza crisis help

Friday, January 30, 2009

Democrats in the United States House of Representatives have sent a letter to new Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, asking her to release funds to reconstruct agencies in the Gaza Strip.

The letter also said she should try to reason with Israel to allow people in Gaza in need of medical attention and emergency transportation between the Israel and Gaza border.

The letter, released to the AFP news agency, says “[w]e… urge you to express this concern directly to Israeli government officials”. The letter says the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) need an estimated $350 million dollars for rebuilding of Gaza and to provide relief to residents. “Failure to address this humanitarian emergency has the potential to produce a crisis of even more unspeakable proportions,” the letter added, “we therefore respectfully request that the State Department release emergency funds to UNRWA for reconstruction and humanitarian assistance”.

They also urged Clinton and her team to make a list of “actions taken to date and the strategy you will pursue to address the humanitarian crisis”, saying “[w]ith the ceasefire now in effect, it is critical that the United States play a leading role in alleviating the suffering of civilians in Gaza and we respectfully urge your assistance in this task”.

Israel began a ceasefire on January 18 after a 23 day offensive, in an attempt to stop rocket fire into Israel by Hamas militants, but has warned that they reserve the right to resume action if the shelling of Israel did not stop.

What Is The Right Insurance Plan For My Family?

 • Get More Information Here:
 • International Student Insurance Plans

Choosing The Right Life Insurance PlanInterested in buying permanent life insurance, but afraid you may not buy the right policy that would fit your personal situation? Buying insurance is like renting a product to help you financially in case something unexpected happens. Most permanent life insurance includes universal, variable, and whole life insurance. These policies hold a value that fits most individuals’ needs. Here are some tips to help you find the policy that will fit your lifestyle and family needs.Evaluate your families lifestyle and needs when determining the amount of life insurance you purchase. Everyone has individual life needs that will need to be addressed in the event of a family death. You must make sure that the amount of coverage is enough to care for your loved ones should this occur.Pay your premiums promptly. If the holder fails to pay the monthly premium on their insurance term, or if they decide to stop making payments before the whole life plan gains any value, they will lose the policy. They will also be forced to get a new policy and the new policy could be more expensive. This can especially be true if they have aged or fallen into poor health since their policy payments stopped.Compare your group life insurance against other policies. Group life policies, usually provided by your employer, may not always be the least expensive option. The rates are set based on averages — average age, average health and other important risk factors that may not apply to you. If you have excellent health, shop around to see if you can get better rates elsewhere.Term life insurance is a more affordable option for life insurance. It only covers you for a set period of years; it is usually sold for 10, 20, or 30 year periods. A term life insurance policy is usually much less expensive than a whole life insurance policy per month.Buy the right amount of life insurance to cover all of your living expenses and specified needs. Skimping on life insurance is not a good idea. Term insurance, especially, is very affordable, so make sure you get as much insurance as you need. As a rule of thumb, consider buying insurance that equals approximately 6 to 10 times your income. If you are considering purchasing whole life insurance, keep in mind that this insurance is more expensive, but it will cover your entire life span. If you live to be 100 years of age, you will still have coverage to benefit your family left behind after your death. A term life policy is effective only for a determined amount of time and will expire eventually. Keep in mind, a term life policy is usually less expensive and more affordable than a whole-life insurance policy, and you have the option to renew once the policy runs out.A convertibility feature is a helpful tool. It will allow you to convert your policy to a permanent one if you need one. You just have to make sure you do this before your term expires. This will let you keep your policy, and ease some stress in your life.Keep an eye out for an independent insurance agency that will really care about your needs and watch out for you. There are some life insurance companies that will offer competitive rates for some medical conditions (diabetes, heart disease and cancer). These companies are much more family friendly and don’t just put everyone in a group. Their charge is based off of what you really need. When considering a life insurance policy, be sure to do a great deal of shopping around. Some insurance providers can be more competitive price-wise due to the mass amounts of people they insure. There is also a good deal of difference on the ability of an insurer to guarantee they will be around fifty years later to pay out when it is needed. When considering life insurance, be sure to look outside of what your employer provides. While this may be easier and you may assume they are providing what is best for you, it is not always the case. It is a good solid idea to buy a life insurance policy outside of what is provided by your employer as you can’t take life insurance that is employer provided should you lose your job, find another job, etc. Make sure that they rates and coverage are competitive or better than other offers that you could go with.Did you know? If a relative of yours recently died and named you as the beneficiary on his life insurance policy, but the policy itself is missing, there are steps you can take to locate the policy, even if you don’t know which insurance company issued it. Examine the deceased’s canceled checks for any that were written to insurance companies. Look through any mail you can find for insurance bills or policy status notices. Check with former employers or organizations that the deceased belonged to which may have offered the policy. Look at tax returns for expenses or interest earned in regard to life insurance. Finally, check with the Medical Information Bureau, which has a database that can inform you if the medical records of the deceased were requested by any insurance companies since 1996.Having to think about the possibilities of something unfortunate happening to you is uncomfortable and can be very stressful. However, it is an important financial decision that should be made in order to protect your family and their future. Investing the effort and time to learn all of your options and choosing your policy will in the long run make everyone feel a lot safer and will provide you with peace of mind (the decrease in stress carries the added benefit of increasing your life expectancy).

Wikinews interviews Jim Hedges, U.S. Prohibition Party presidential candidate

Saturday, January 29, 2011

U.S. Prohibition Party presidential candidate Jim Hedges of Thompson Township, Pennsylvania took some time to answer a few questions about the Prohibition Party and his 2012 presidential campaign.

The Prohibition Party is the third oldest existing political party in the United States, having been established in 1869. It reached its height of popularity during the late 19th century. The party heavily supported the Eighteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution, which banned the sale of alcohol, and resulted in the US period known as Prohibition (1919–33). It was repealed in 1933. The party has declined since this period, but has continued to nominate candidates for the presidential election.

In 2003, the party split into two factions. Preacher Gene Amondson and perennial candidate Earl Dodge were nominated for the presidency by their respective factions. After Dodge’s death in 2007, the party reunified and named Amondson as its sole presidential nominee for 2008. During the election, Amondson was interviewed by Wikinews. He died in 2009, leaving an opening in the party for 2012.

Jim Hedges is a longtime Prohibition activist, who holds the distinction of the first individual of the 21st century (and the first since 1959) to be elected to a political office under the Prohibition Party banner. In 2001, he was elected as the Thompson Township tax assessor, and was re-elected to the post in 2005. He served until his term expired in 2010. Hedges declared his intent to run for the Prohibition Party presidential nomination on February 18, 2010. This marks his first run for the presidency.

Breast Implants and Recovery: What You May Not Know

by

aaucoin

You know that there are benefits to getting breast implants, as well as risks. But there are some interesting points about the recovery and recuperation from having augmentation that you may not be aware of. In fact, the things that you do not know may surprise you.

After the surgery, you are going to feel groggy and not like yourself at all. You will be sent home with various types of medication. You will need plenty of rest and your chest may be wrapped up, or you may have to wear a special surgical bra as you heal. You must have someone waiting at the hospital to drive you home.

Another one of the recuperation surprises that you may not be aware of is that the discomfort you experience following the procedure is dependent upon where the cosmetic surgeon places the breast implants. If they are placed on top of the pectoral muscle, the pain following the operation should last no longer than a day. On the other hand, the pain that accompanies an under the muscle placement will take anywhere from two to three days to subside. The reason for this is because the plastic surgeon has to lift up the pectoral muscle in order to create the pocket for the implant.

Shortly after having the cosmetic surgery procedure, your bosom may feel engorged. Some women report a sensation similar to the feeling of having milk fill their glands after they have given birth. Generally speaking, it is a feeling of swelling and pressure. The engorged feeling could stay around for approximately a week before it goes away.

After having breast implants, you will have some bruising and swelling in the area of the incision. The majority of both (approximately 80 percent of it) should be gone after the first two to two and a half weeks. The rest of it can take anywhere from two to four months to completely go away. They will both show signs of improvement but may be around for longer than you wish, during your recovery period.

It takes awhile for healing and the complete recuperation of the chest to take place. Some women find themselves disappointed when they get their first look at their new and improved breasts. What you need to realize is that it takes time for the breast implants to settle into the right position. Your first look is not what the final outcome will be!

It takes a few months to see the accurate results of the breast implants. If your chest looks like it is too high on your body, or the shape seems off, rest assured that this will change in time.
